  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ever ask people what they *think* you paid for the car? Funny story...

My favorite game to play with people is to ask "what do you think this car cost?"

Had lunch with a co-worker yesterday. Kind of a car guy, but not super serious.

I have a '12 r-spec black on black. It's been re-badged so no Hyundai anywhere.

We get in the car, I talk about the performance, stereo, features, etc.

He asks "what did you pay"?

I ask "what do you think I paid?"

"$60 grand."

"Nope, try again."

"$80 grand?"

"Are you KIDDING? Try about $42K. About the price of a fully loaded Camry."

He couldn't believe it. He's not the first person to guess that wrong, either. :D

I had a similar situation when I 1st bought the car back in Jan '09. was at a party and a few people needed a right, since they were having a good time:D so 3 people got it. One of the guys that got into the back seat said, "Geez! When did you get the $70,000 car?! I laughed. he didn't have a clue what it was.

I think your math on the Camry is about 10k off. A fully loaded Camry is about 35k and can be had for 32k, but still doesn't make it right to spend 32k on a FWD refrigerator.

I think the key to your test is that people don't know that it's a Hyundai.

From my experience people usually guess about 10k below what I paid because I have not removed the badges and they know it's Hyundai. I would not be surprised at all if they guessed much higher without knowing that fact. The car is good value for money but the market does not yet associate Hyundai with luxury. It doesn't bother me and it's why I chose to lease.
