  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So obviously I only notice this at night, however, every so often when I put my turn signal on (Either left or right) my lights (headlights) will flick off and then back on again. It is only brief... yet embarrassing as it's almost like I'm flashing the car in front.

Now my problem is that it's not worth taking it to the dealer because I know they will just say that "they can't replicate it". I have owned the car for about 4 months now from new and it has probably only happened about 4 times.

The thing is, it just shouldn't happen at all!! Has anyone else experienced this?

I believe some others have experienced it, and in some cases worse than a flicker. You might try searching the site for the other threads. If the search function on this site doesn't work, then just try Google.

I have noticed my dash lights flicker a few times, just blew it off.

My Sonata's dash lights have been doing this for about a year, and I've ripped the dash apart in attempt to find the issue, but I can't. Funny thing is that this dash flicker only happens in the winter colder months:confused: This last 2 mornings the dash lights didn't turn on at all until I drove the car about 5 minutes. Then the dash lights flickered on and stayed on. I checked for a loose fuse also, but the fuses are all in tight.....

Hi,

This has been an issue for me and I posted a topic about it in the past.

Here is a video of my situation I had -

http://youtu.be/ZzxQreTKF5g

I bet this happens to you when you have the light switch set to "ON"? If you have it set to auto it won't do it.
I was able to replicate it easily to the dealer as it was an ongoing problem if I had the setting set to ON rather then AUTO.

The dealer fixed the issue by giving me a brand new knob for it as mine was defective. This fixed the issue and I haven't had a problem since.
Feel free to use that video to show them the problem if you can't replicate it in person.

If your car is black, then just claim it's your video if it's doing the exact same issue.

Thanks, I may just use that!! Looks exactly the same. I have always been driving when mine has done it and not been able to replicate when stationary or at home.

Do you think it is just a faulty connection with the with the turn signal stick on the steering wheel then?

I'm pretty sure that is the issue. It should do it all the time. What I did was move the turn signal up, move it down, and keep doing it and you will definitely see it messing up. Good way to know it's doing it is looking at the dash area and look at the two green lights, those will flicker off too if you don't have any areas to see it in the glass like I did.

Internal fault in the headlamp switch.

Just had the dealership replace mine.

I have the same issue with my 2011 Genesis 4.6. In addition, the lights have gone off randomly while driving down the interstate, without using turn signal (but perhaps dimming or brightening -- when the lights go off in the dark, I will admit that recalling every aspect of what I just did is not my first priority!). It is in the dealer's shop now, and I hope they will find the problem. I have had it in before and was told "cannot replicate." I told them that this time that will not be a satisfactory response. This seems very dangerous to me, even though lights are not off for long period of time. And I think the entire dash goes out when headlights go as well, although, again, when it happens my eyes are trained on the road.

Update: dealer kept my car for two days and drove it about 100 miles at night to replicated the issue. Finally, it happened to the mechanic -- he says lights went out for about one minute, then came back on. He diagnosed a short in the headlight switch and replaced it. So far, so good.

I had this exact same issue last night after a late night out; pretty scary when driving and on highway, and between brief periods of darkness and cars thinking you are flashing them was wondering when I would get pulled over. The video on You tube below exactly replicates the issue--use your turn flicker and every few times the lights blink out, sometimes more than just a flicker. Will drop by to get the switch replaced. Thanks for posting the video.

Mine too (2012 premium with 37000 kms). Just got it on Friday and noticed right away. Sounds like a common issue and an easy fix under warranty, as they replace the lighting stalk on the steering column. I video'd mine in the garage as evidence.

Happens to me too on my 2012. Unfortunately my local dealers will not do anything unless it happens to them, which makes it difficult since it doesn't happen to me that often either.

I wanted to add to this, admittedly old, thread to say that my R-Spec suffered from this issue and I had the multi-function switch replaced under warranty yesterday. The dealer could not replicate on site, but had seen it before in the model line.

The part is 380-ish dollars and the labor billed at about 45 minutes for those out of warranty.

I had the SAME issue as well, here in OH on our '12 3.8. It's freaking dangerous at night because the flicker, in my case, was a second or two). I posted my experience with the dealer (they were good fixing it) but there may have been two things...the turn signal/light stalk but also I had installed non-OEM bulbs in the high beam housings. They were not third party Sylvanias, etc but Lumenics (I wanted match the color of the high beams to the color temp of the low beams, as I'd replaced the fog lights as well to 5150 deg bulbs. In any case, they installed new Hyundai OEM bulbs and the stalk and not had a problem since. That's my experience. They said they had not seen any bulletins on the stalk, but when I mentioned that if I were to get into an accident at night, there'd be a lawsuit for sure.....and well, it got fixed.
