  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, it came true for me yesterday. Someone hit my G2 and put a gnarly dent on it , and managed to scrape the drivers front wheel underneath the dent down to the black primer. Anybody been through this before and if so how did it pan out?

No note was left, classy...

Apparently this appears to be the prevailing mentality. Hit and run has become an epidemic. We see it on the news frequently with much more dire results unfortunately. I know how disgusting it can be it’s happened to me in the past. I’m one of those people that always parks far away from everybody usually to my passenger’s displeasure. Unless of course if I drop them off first. Even that doesn't always work I come back sometimes to a fairly empty lot and somebody parked right next to me.

Aholes!!! People suck these days - no integrity. This is exactly the reason why I always park way the hell out at the end of parking lots where no one is near me and walk! I also will take our old minivan or my wife's company car if I know I can't control where I can park. Damn shame! Good luck with the fix!

This - WTF - I never understand why this happens - a virtually empty parking lot a long walk from the store and some idiot has to park right next to me!

I watched this happen recently, so before they got out of their car I walked back and moved my car hoping they got the message.

This really sucks.

Some people suck. I hope they can match the paint on your wheels and fix everything like new.

I once saw a car hit another car in the parking lot and run, so I wrote down his license plate and left a note in the victim's window.

Usually, the idiot is driving a bloated pickup truck, or some such. And, if somebody does offer to pay, they add insult to injury by saying "Well, it'll only cost a few bucks to fix it".

Been to a body shop lately?

Sorry for the damage, I'd be pissed if it was mine.

Go back to the place you parked the car at exactly and look around closely. See if there are any businesses nearby and inquire about cameras - you/the police may be able to track down the hit and run that way. Some businesses will not just hand over video records without a subpoena.

I'm sorry this happened. This is one of the reason I have dash cameras, at least I can get the license plate number and some info on the car if something like this ever happens. I hope it turns out okay - people......

Well I'm going to get some estimates for repair over the next couple days, hopefully they can pull the debt but I am sceptical if that will work (cleanly) because of the flat and the dent is not a simple dimple.

Might have some camera footage of the lot, would be nice...should find out today.

360 camera with accident recording capability, now there is an option I'd go for!

Now, if Hyundai wanted to be really clever, use the parking assist warning system to detect an impending collision while parked, and start flashing the lights and horn like crazy, to get the imbecile to suddenly hit his brakes. Maybe kick in the backup camera and record the incident to the on-board hard drive at the same time. And if you've got Blue-link, text your phone that your car just got hit, with the previously mentioned video.

..and then have the option to automatically integrate that with recording hardware to take pictures of the heathens.

Three estimates are in, wheel is going to be about $895 to replace and the dent removal and paint will be $600-800. According to the shop that works for Lexus they will need to spray the hood to blend it in due to the sparkle in the paint, that is not included in any of the quotes. Another shop said maybe the door and maybe the hood will need sprayed to blend unless they can keep the primed area very small.

Not sure which way to go but am leaning towards the toyota shop that is associated w the Lexus dealer.

Glad to get it fixed up but still cant help being pissed off about losing the factory finish, only 5k on the car. So far no clues from the video although I have not yet been able to watch the entire thing (5 hours).

sounds like you are going with the quality fix, nice choice. I had to have my bumper and trunk resprayed after shaving the emblems and it looks great even with the pearl white.

Ugh. I had some jerk put a trailer-hitch shaped dent in the front of my car once. In their truck they probably didn't even notice they backed into my car. No note of course.

On my new Genesis 5.0 there's a one-inch scrape all the way through the outer metallic coat down to the black on the edge of my right front wheel. Hard to see fortunately but looks nasty once you see it. I can't figure out where it came from, the tire isn't similarly damaged and if I had ran the wheel along a curb half the wheel would have been ground down (and I surely would have remembered doing it).
