  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Exhaust for the G80 5.0

I just installed the Magnaflow cat-back system ( part 19116) last weekend. I read all the previous comments about dreaded drone and was expecting the same. I was surprised to hear no drone at all. It's louder than stock but just enough for me. One thing I noticed is that the Magnaflow resonator can actually contact part of the body shell since it is a bit wider than stock. If you don't take care to adjust the fit the contact will send noise and vibration into the cabin and I suspect that may be what some others have heard and described as drone. Hot exhaust.com even has a 20% off sale which I took advantage of. Sorry no sound clips but it's a big improvement and I highly recommend the system.
When you installed the Magnaflow system did you leave the 2nd Cats in or removed them?

The stock system has a bolted connections, just ahead of the resonator but behind the cats, and where the muffler pipes attach to the resonator assembly. So, the cats are untouched. Everything is removed past that connection. I am still very pleased with the system and have no regrets.

Two questions:
1- Did you do it yourself?
2- Did you reuse what looks like an extender or adapter on the tips of the old muffler on the new ones?

I did it myself. Hyundai makes disassembly easy with the bolted connections. The bolts at the front of the resonator assembly can be tricky to get to. You'll need some long extensions and a universal joint socket connector. If the bolts have any corrosion you will probably need to spray them liberally with liquid wrench. The Magnaflow resonator is just a tad wider than stock so you end up with very little clearance between it and the body. You have to be careful that it does not contact the body and create vibration and noise. So far I have kept the stock extensions since the magnaflow system is designed to use them. Their exhaust tips fit into the stock tips which are fixed to the bumper, not the exhaust system. The magnaflow mufflers are hung so that the exhaust exits within the stock tips. You could remove them but then you would have to put on some nice looking extensions of you own to make it look finished. The overall fit is great but you have to take your time and get it right. The right and left resonator to muffler pipes are ever so slightly different in shape but are not labeled right and left, so you have to be careful with that as well. One of the hardest parts is getting the new mufflers back onto the stock rubber hangers. If you use lots of liquid dish soap to lube the rubber hanger opening it goes on pretty easy using just your hands, no need for a hanger tool.

Much appreciated....
