  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
So I am looking at a 2015 3.8 sedan and being me I like changing exhausts. However I’ve noticed there is no options for the 3.8. Now what can I do I was half tempted to use the v8’s lol but seriously the older models had some they may fit right?

OH, boy! I hope I never see some asswipe driving a Genesis with a loud muffer. Everytime I'm out walking and hear one of these jerks drive by, I'm tempted to give them a "finger" salute.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

You can check on YouTube and see what a number of 2nd Gen owners have done to ‘modify’ the stock exhaust. Most, in my opinion, wind up with a noisy, crackly exhaust note (muffler deletes on many) more befitting a tweaked out Subaru than a sleek luxury sedan.

You'll probably have to get custom work done.... up here in the midwest I emailed a custom shop. Unless you are handy with a welding torch and want to get crafty yourself. With the right diameter pipe with the right bends, you can get any exhaust to fit ;)

I asked the shop what they thought could be done for a sound sort of on par with the Maserati Quattraporte S Q4 or an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio (look them up on youtube they sound beautiful to me)... I want something that is NOT aggressive but if you gave it the beans say above 3500-4000rpm, would give a nice song. I for one do like a little burble and crackle on the downshift like the jaguars give nowadays. It certainly isn't for everyone and is VERY easy to overdo.

I don't want my Genny to sound like a straight piped silverado afterall ;)

So this was the custom shop's reply:

My thoughts are to replace the mid resonator with a Magnaflow glass packed muffler. This will free up some sound and kill some of the high pitch the V6 can produce. This won't be on the aggressive end. Otherwise, just delete the mid resonator and make the rear mufflers work for it.

I'm going in for an appointment next Wednesday for them to have a look. We'll try the glass pack and if that's not loud enough we'll delete the resonator (I think the glass pack will be perfect but we'll see).

I'll post a before and after with my gopro so you can hear the change.

That v6 sounds so lovely when it's revved up, it just needs a little dance partner coming out the back to balance it out perfectly

I wanna test with stock v8 mufflers or G80 sport mufflers in the rear, and maybe removing secondary cats. Any one have v8 mufflers they don't need?

Currently at a local custom exhaust shop. With the amount of resonators in the car the guys here (with 15+ years experience) are thinking a resonator delete will be best. There's a lot of silencing going on down there. So pulling one resonator out and putting in a glass pack wouldn't give any change in sound really. So we're gonna set up the delete so I can get an idea of what it'd sound like. I'll post the video here when it's tested and done.

Cool, can't wait this is for V6 right?

Yea this is the v6 (I need to have a signature I'll go do that)
I'm off in an hour and park on top of the ramp so it's empty I'll set up my tripod and take a few rips around in 1st gear to give you a sense of the sound. I admit it is subtle, I think it could be louder. I can hear a gentle raspy rumble which is what I wanted but I think I'll want more volume(exhaust guy said to give it a few weeks to see how I like it before deciding to go any deeper into a $$ project). Going from a simple delete to removing and adding parts will be much more expensive(The delete/weld was only $227)

Here ya go...
Hey, I have a couple questions for you. I see it's been a couple months since you posted the video , have you done anything else to your exhaust since? Are you satisfied with just having the resonators deleted? How's the sound now, still the same or gotten louder or quieter? I was thinking about getting the borla pro xs mufflers installed but was trying to see/hear what others have done before I settled.

I haven't done anything else to it. I'm happy with it still and I think it's about the same sound as when I first got it done. I do wish I got the burbles on downshift but I'm not looking to spend the thousand or more to get that effect. I like the rasp when I open the throttle.

Sounds like some teenager's rice burner. Does it get you hard because it doesn't do anything for me?

So hard yes thank you for your valuable input.

The original video is no longer available. Do you still have it? Thinking to have a resonator delete done on my 2015 V6 too…
