  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am looking to upgrade from the factory exhaust system and would like some advice on which brand maybe better? I have looked at FlowMaster, GReddy, HKS and since they are all around the same price, I don't know which one to get? Part 2 would be catback or axle back? I am guessing catback.

Specs:

Genesis 3.8 Track only mod to date is I added a K&N filter to the stock airbox. Am looking to upgrade to CAI but will leave that for another thread.

Any help is much appreciated!

There are a few other companies making exhausts. There's CP-e, Injen(hopefully soon), ARK, Borla, CNT, RRM, DC Sports, Magnaflow and etc. Some as low as $350 and some as high as $1400.

If I were to do an exhaust on my car I'd keep the cats (they flow pretty well and it's good for the environment and it will smell better) and just do a cat back exhaust. I would go with an exhaust system that isn't to large (dual 2.5" would be to large) whether that be dual 2.25" pipes with a crossover or a single 3" to a si/do muffler. And I'd make absolutely sure the new system does not drone. Oh, and you have to like the sound of it. Some of the exhaust systems make the car almost sound "Lamborghini'esq". And some give it a more raspy/big bumble bee sound.

I too did the K&N air filter and run 91 octane but really didn't feel a difference. I then pulled out the grey charcoal filter in the airhat above the K&N filter and that seemed to make a difference in the off idle response of the car.

For the exhaust, I suggest Borla from the many options out there. They look good and performs well but not completely drone free.

I have a 3.8 Track. I replaced the stock header with an ARK, and my ARK exhaust just came in and will be installed this week. Check out youtube cause there are too many videos of the 3.8 with different exhausts. its hard to decide just based on these videos...I used them to compare soundds and decibel readings.
BTW..you'll get a nice kick out of a CAI...I put in a INJEN but there are others. On the dyno, my 3.8 stock was 260 whp, 280 whp with CAI, and I'll report back when the exhaust is installed. BTW I had PowerAxel reflash the ECU..did not dyno after but someone else got +20 whp fromthe reflash. I notice that the car is more responsive...maybe just solves the drive bywire issue?

BTW..take a look at these pics:
