exhaust stain on 2013

Sorry if this appears elsewhere...I'm new and don't see a search button.

My pearl white 2013 Genesis Sedan has a terrible problem with dark exhaust stains over the two exhaust pipes.

I've taken it to the dealer twice to ask if it is a common problem...they say no (shocker).

ALSO, the clear coat is peeling off on the strip below the doors on the driver's side only...not the doors, but the thin panel below that. Anyone had this issue.

I don't know if it is a common problem, as there aren't that many Genny's out there on the road, but my cousin's 2012 3.8 does have some black soot deposit over the dual exhausts. I don't know if it comes off with a wash or is a permanent stain but I will ask him. I don't notice it on the 5.0 though.

I have had this problem since the day I got the car. When you get it on, a nice puff of black smoke comes out the back. This is a common issue (just search the board). It comes right off with a nice wash. My bumper was recently replaced and it looks marvelous. I hand wash and wax so I know that the stain comes off.

My cousin also reports the paint above the exhausts isn't "stained" because it washes off without a problem.

What helps too is BUG and TAR remover. Just spray some of that on it or a little 409 diluted with a little of water. Wash it then wax....

You can use a wheel cleaner to remove the stain.

Do you mean that the clear coat on the plastic rocker panels is peeling off???
Or do you mean the horizontal door protector strip??

GDI engines run rich. Try to wash the bumper often.

Heavy degreaser followed by a metal polish like White Diamond should take care of the tailpipe stains. For the bumper stains, degreaser followed by an abrasive compound should do the trick. Both treatments require a good amount of elbow grease as well.

I've had real good luck using Armorall CLEANER WIPES on my stains. If you haven't used these- they're good for a lot of problems.

I also have a 2012 white genesis sedan . and the black soot make the car looks extra dirty. I have to wash or wipe the car down everyday. if you hit the gas it will produce more soot. I tried a octane cleaner /boost in the engine but that didn't work.

Clean the exhaust with soap or APC and water. Then polish it using Megs aluminum polish or the Optimum metal polish.

My 2014 white R-spec stains the exhaust tips and bumper bad. I have to scrub it with degreaser. It also has thick black smoke when you get on it. I too had a major paint defect on both bumpers. Peeling clear coat, paint turning yellow. It was only on the front and rear bumper. Hyundai covered it after a lot of fighting with the stealership.

No clear-coat issues on my 2013, but I keep it waxed, so maybe that helps.

The stuff on the rear bumper and tailpipes is not a stain. It's simply carbon dust. You could wipe it off with a tissue, if you wanted to. Easier to use a little soap and water, though, and then wax the plastic bits.

You used to see black, oily stains on the bumpers of old, out-of-tune gasoline engines and some diesels. These stains were due to unburned fuel and oil getting blown out the exhaust. This is not that. This is dry carbon dust, and it will not "stain" the plastic or tailpipe trim, as it cannot penetrate the surface, even when wet. I have 23k miles on my car and when cleaned, the exhaust/bumper area looks brand new. Kim Kardashian's bumper/exhaust area is jealous of my Genny's.

Bought a 2013 last week with bad carbon stains on the exhaust tips. Used soap water for basic cleaning and the brasso cleaner. Applied brasso twice, tips look like new.
