  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 Hyundai genesis sedan 3.8. I just removed my mufflers and just put straight pipes. So what is the next step to make it sound better

Sound is highly subjective. Are you looking to eliminate drone, get a certain tone, or anything that rhymes with drone/tone?

Lol both of possible. More of the less drone but still have that aggressive sound

Ugh, does it sound good without the mufflers at all? I took only the resonator off my 3.8 when I had one and it sounded horrendously raspy. I think your next logical step short of getting the Magnaflow catback system that bolts right on would be to put some universal mufflers on your pipes.

Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster, and Dynomax VT mufflers have all been used on this engine. Go find some videos on Youtube of the coupe 3.8 running each of these mufflers and you can get a feeling for the type of tone each muffler gives you. It won't be exact obviously, but you can deduce some characteristics.

Yea it sounds pretty good without the mufflers. I'll try to post a video of it. Thanks guys.

If you want to keep it mufflerless and reduce drone/improve tone, research helmholtz resonators. Basic principle, take a section of the pipe and cut in an extra pipe at 90-degree angle, diameter and length of this pipe is determined on what Hz/RPM you are trying to eliminate. Ultimately the pipe dead-ends. What occurs is the sound wave comes down the pipe, turns into the resonator, reflects off the dead end and returns to the main pipe now 180-degrees out of sync and the tone blends in.

+1 on adding resonators since muffler delete will sound really loud. Resonators will help tone down it.
