  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am goin g to be wrapping pretty much all the chrome on my car and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with plasti dipping their exhaust tip.

I’m a little skeptical about it but I feel like it would hold up. Any first hand experiences?

Powder Coating it would be better... the heat will probably mess up the plastidip pretty quickly.

Yeah I suppose. Just don’t want to do something permanent.

You could always keep your eyes peeled for spare parts on ebay or from a parted out car after an accident and get a second set of tips for pretty cheap and then you can always go back to the originals.

That’s true. Just been reading a lot online of people saying that they have done it and it worked out. Lasted years. Was just wanting to see if anyone in here did it

not sure if the G70 has fake tips like the G80 (and Lexus and mbz and many others) those can be dipped without issue.

but if it has real tips connected to the resonator or muffler I'm going to suggest not, as plasti-dip has a heat rating of 200° and exhaust tips reach 400°-600° so unless you want dripping goo all over the car----

Hotter than I would have guessed. I'll have to get my IR thermometer out and check.

Looks like a high heat paint can work though. These look good.

G80 has fake tips. the are not physically connected to the muffler, so if you are doing a reading be sure to crawl under the car and read the actual tips which are tucked behind the fake tips.

Well glad I posted something. I could’ve sworn that the G70 had fake tips 🥴

I don't do well crawling under these days. Best I could to is the tips and what I could get reaching under and hoping I hit the pipe. After a 6 mile trip the highest reading I got was 160. I'm sure on a good highway run it would be higher and if I got a better shot at the actual pipel

So you wanna dip your tip?

Haha, jk. I just wanted to say that.

Anyway, the G70 exhaust tips are part fake, part real. If you look closely, you'll see the real exhaust tips, but they are further back within the fake tips - the fake ones are integrated into the bumper.

Personally, I think you'd be fine dipping the fake tips. I assume it would hold up just fine.

LOL! It was only a matter of time before someone said it 🤣

Thanks for that info. I just want to do the piece flush with the bumper. I think I’m going to try it and hope that it works out! 🤞🏽
