  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am personally fond of the single tip. However, it seems several people like the quad tip design. I'm currently in the R&D process with the following goals in mind:

1. To allow the motor to really express it's "agressiveness" without the cabin drone.

2. Increased HP.

3. Do you like the quad tips or do you want more of a factory look > oval / slanted / double walled?

What are you looking for?

Our initials design. Mufflers are on their way in to quiet this puppy down.

Back in the 80's, a 5.0L with an H-pipe, short fanbelt to bypass the air pump, and 3-chamber Flowmasters sounded awesome. I can still pick out a Mustang by sound without seeing it (owned an '83 and '89 in HS and college).

These days, I can live with silence (due to occasional 1 hour commutes) but dream about a nanny-free ESC for aggressive launches when I'm feeling my oats.

Now get off my lawn! :p

LOL. Yeah, I figured as much about the quietness. I have several mufflers coming in for testing. As for the tranny, well...I'm still waiting on Hypertech's call when they have an opening.

That was sweet...but LOUD! HA!

To me...this car needs low rumble. I want it to be idling in my garage and all you hear is a deep bass note.

I think that I can achieve this by simply removing a few resonators.

If you have ever had the opportunity to listen to the TRD Exhaust on the Tundra's than you would understand my comments. At full throttle, its not loud by any means. As an AVID toyota guy who owned a supercharged Tundra and 4Runner...my knowledge with Toyota and TRD outweighs my Hyundai knowledge. TRD exhaust is made by Borla and if Borla made an axle-back system for the Gen...I would be all over it.

To be honest...I think any "real" HP gains would be to begin at the headers. A Cat back system is nice and pretty but almost useless (performance wise) if you dont change the headers as well. Hence the reason I would just rather hang two mufflers and tips unless I could afford to do it right.

Thats just my opinion and in essence, thats where my hard earned money would go. The Toyota's came with the cat-back systems installed.

Anywho, good luck with your design and if I like...by all means, I will buy it! :)

Videos are GREAT and an awesome selling tool! Keep that in mind as you go!;)

I am still beating myself up for buying a V6. I wish the V6 sounded a little more aggressive, but I am afraid any enhancements would make it sound.......like a V6 with exhaust. (I remember a friend of mine with a V6 mustang that put exhaust on it - sounded a bit off.) Nothing like a V8 sound.

My experience with GM motors, particularly late model Corvettes, is that aftermarket mufflers often produce an annoying drone at particular rpms. This is hard to eliminate. You can slap on most any muffler for "sound", but sound, power and no drone are hard to engineer. Suggest you work with someone like Corsa to do a Genesis cat back system; and then market the product, even exclusively.
The real power in exhausts are achieved by long tube headers - like 2x+ compared to a cat back system. I am sure you know just why OEM do not produce long tube exhaust manifolds - it is California's requirement that cats light up at the earliest possible moment. This requires that the cats be tucked as close to the exhaust ports as possibles. It also means that CA does not permit any header that does not have this feature. This seriously reduces your market.
Add to this the possible complication that Genesis appears to have four cats. Long tubes might eliminate two. Will that cause all kinds of codes?
The market for headers is very small. If you choose to go ahead suggest you work with a mfg like American Racing Headers modifiying an existing design.
Suggest you work also with HKS on ECU rewriting. They have a lot of experience with Asian technology. There are probably some Korean tuners out there too.
Good luck.

Oh it's crazy loud compared to what I would presume most Genesis owners would like.

1. I know I'm not going to get a huge amount of power gains from an axle back. But just making that modification was a huge difference. I say axle back because there is an addition X pipe between the cats and the exhaust system. I'll sell it as a discounted package deal, but will market them as separate units.

2. I've always been a huge Toyota fan, and still am. TRD rebrands a lot of already manufactured parts as you mentioned, i.e. springs are by Eibach Pro Kits and Shocks are Bilsteins.

3. I also know I won't eliminate the V8 "drone", but my goal is to make it very bearable.

4. Long tube headers have been a consideration. But looking under the car and at the design, my projections at the cost of building something like that to be very high. The install won't be easy either. So I've decided to kill that project for now.

5. Being in Arkansas, I am limited to the number of aftermarket companies available to me. So joining with companies like Magnaflow or Corsa isn't a possibility. Corsa's tend to carry a higher price also. My attempts are to keep quality, functionality, but very much economical.

6. As for the cats, yes the car has 4 catalytic converters. The pair up front have the 02 sensors before and after it. Those are your primaries. The secondaries can be eliminated, which they are on the car in the video also. It's been over a week without any CEL or issues. I already have a few of these made and are ready for shipment.

Just so I don't step on any toes, I'll sign up as a sponsor (pending costs) before I post things like this so I'm legit. However, I can't seem to get a response on pricing. Any help PINGGOLF??

Hey bud! I wish I could help you out on that but I have no clue. "HYUNDAI GENESIS" (aka SAL) is the site administrator and he will tell you everything you need to know. Shoot him a PM or something and he should get back to you rather quickly...if not, let me know and Ill get him for you!

Thanks for what you do!;)

LOL. Ok.

On another note, do you like the dual tips or the single stock-like tips?

I think if the double tips were more "form fitting" it would look great! I'm a fan of the single tip though because it looks more fluid in the design.

Yeah...I'm having a real hard time finding the double tips that are dual walled, slanted, and staggered. So I'm working with what I got. :D

Here is something cool to check out!

When they show the HP and TQ ratings...its at the wheels.

Simply by removing the secondary cats...you get a performance increase.

Ill be at the muffler shop this weekend! Heck...I may even remove the "whisper valve" setup and install an x-pipe! :)

Thanks! That's actually mine. :D Have a few already made up. The dyno was done with no other additional mods.
I plan on also working on the X-pipe once I get a lift free.

Nice. i wasn't a huge fan of the tips personally, but I'll use those if that's the popular demand. Sounds nice also. I'll be manufacturing something exactly like that here shortly, I'm hoping.

In regards to the dyno results....Those numbers seem very low.
If you figure an 18% drivetrain loss, you're only looking at 349hp.
To be at 380hp, the wheel hp should have been closer to 317.

I have been tempted to get my car dyno'd and when I had the exhaust work done, I was very tempted to remove the second set of cats, seeing that there were not any sensors after them.
At this point, I'm very happy with the limited drone inside the cabin, but with enough of an exhaust note to remind you there's a V8 under the hood, so I'm worried about the noise increase, if I remove those secondary cats.

I don't think my tip set up is what the masses want. I went that route to be different, but not so different that I was screaming, "Hey! Look at me and my dual exhaust"... I actually think the stock tips, but in a brighter chrome finish would look really nice.

Saw your Corolla video....

Here's a Corolla I picked up, several years ago, so I didn't have to drive the new Mercedes I bought to my laundromat. Hated to show up in my Mercedes, to collect money at a business supported by mostly lower income customers...I found it embarrassing and disrespectful, so I bought this little 79 corolla with 69,000 original miles on it. Wife and I took it out to dinner a few time too. Got a lot of compliments in that car.

And since you had the fender mounted mirrors on your corolla (like the old Datsun 510's) Here's a picture of the MGB I owned for many years...Just sold it last year actually.

Figured you would appreciate both of those cars!

Cool!!! So tell me, are those dyno numbers correct? Seems a bit low from 375hp.

Hahaha. Those are absolutely great!!!

The numbers are correct. I have the dyno images somewhere... I'll have to dig them up. My experiences with an automatic is that there about a 20% loss. I was disappointed at the loss also trust me because I had the premium gas in it also. I was happy with the secondary cat deletes.

3 weeks code free..
