I received a letter from Hyundai today. They have started their own Genesis ownwer's web site.

For those of you that have complaints and suggestions this might be the place to let those issues be known.

Here's the address ExperienceGenesis.com. I would assume that every owner will be getting a letter soon.

I don't really know a lot about it other than they sent me a rather nice letter. In order to register you have to give your VIN number and mileage. There is a box to check if you want to be reminded about when service is due. I checked that box which might be handy for us older absent minded folks. The site has obviously just gotten started.

Your site has a distinct advantage because you got started much earlier. I think you might have gotten started before the car was even available. Nothing like thinking ahead of everyone else.

There might already be a flaw in the new site. The site tells me that I'm due for my first service at 7,500 miles when I have in fact already had my first oil change at the dealer where I bought the car. The way I understood it, their site is supposed to have that information.

This (your) site has been extremely valuable. I stopped looking at the Edmunds site after finding yours.

I don't get any such errors or warnings. You may have a problem with your system, or it may have been a momentary problem with the website.

This site is legit. When I put in my VIN number they tracked it back to my dealer.

However, I don't think the forum is of much use since there are only a couple of posts so far and the forum software is not very good. Basically the site is set up to remind you of scheduled maintenance, and help the dealer sell you some service items.

I agree with the rest that assume they figured out that all of us are actually doing the same thing (keeping a loose network of owners/interested parties) but they aren't in control of it. Genesisowners.com is so far better. For me, I'm glad it was there in the beginning--before I bought! It's because of this site, in part, that I am an owner!

I was a little surprised on the "Experience Genesis" site that it didn't already have my VIN once I entered name, address, etc., and didn't have any service entries from my visits to the dealer (misc service issues, oil change, etc.).

We'll see what it amounts to as time goes on. At least they have something good to use as a reference! (this site)!!

PS: I didn't get any warnings, other than a note that there are secure and unsecure data about to be displayed, etc....I get that when I go on Comcast's website from time to time. I'm no PC-guy, but it hasn't posed any problem to date.

No, sir. There are 4 dealers closer to my home that the one where I purchased my Genesis (according the Hyundai.com website), and after I entered in my VIN they correctly identified the dealer where I purchased the car. Maybe my case was some kind of anomaly, but I am not sure how that could happen. Or maybe some people entered an incorrect VIN, or one not registered yet, and in that case they chose the dealer closest to you.

I don't think it matters how good the forum is on that website, because the purpose of the website is to inform you of service intervals and special announcments and offers (including offers from dealers). The forum part of the Genesisowners.com is not the main feature of the website.

I did enter my VIN, and the correct dealer popped up (there are two in my area). The one I bought from is physically closest to my home. There is an indication that distance is the reason the system chooses a particular dealer, as there is an option to select another area dealer--which seems to me wouldn't be the case if place of purchase was the only criteria.

My network is set to validate security certificates. Many browsers either do not validate them or authorize automatically on a temporary basis. This warning still shows up for me tonight, and I can override like many browsers do automatically. This just struck me as weird since this sort of thing only pops up a couple of times a year so it is not common on my network.

Based on a lookup, it does look legit... i was just warning of a warning with the security cert.

They let you chose another dealer in case that is where you want to service your car. That could happen for a multitude of reasons, such if you didn't purchase at your nearest dealer, or you move to another city/state.

As I mentioned previously, there are 4 other dealers closer to the dealer where I purchased my car, but they correctly identified my dealer when I entered in my VIN.

It is legit. I am not an expert on security certificates, but don't you have to download the latest updates from MS every once in awhile? If you don't have automatic MS updates, could that be the problem?

Windows users might need them for sure. Not so much for my MacPro.

Since you are the only one with a certificate problem, that is doubtful.

I am getting the certificate error also on firefox. Works fine on explorer.

Remember that folks with MACs and non-IE browsers also had trouble getting into the Hyundai Service website. http://www.hmaservice.com . Looks like Hyundai is an exclusive Windows shop, no doubt due to their recent strategic alliance with Microsoft. If you have a Windows machine, and it is up to date [auto-update ON], you should not experience any problems.

From what I gather, other than the certificate warning, the site still works with Firefox once you accept the exception. The site is legit.

REgarding the certificate.

The Site Certificate was NOT built using a trusted root certifier (such as Verisign).

All browsers on ALL platforms (even mac), can be configured to WARN users that the certificate for the site isn't secure.

The default configuration for both IE, Safari and Firefox is to accept the site certificate without warning. Chrome's default is to warn the user of exposure.

Trusted or UnTrusted is subjective, Since a "trusted" certificate is simply one registered with a root certifier and does not mean the site can/should be trusted.

After I saw the warning I did a little checking, the IP address is 69.64.145.229 that address is owned by AT&T, and AT&T reports it is leased to Hyundai America.

So it is a valid site for Hyundai.

As for dealer information. The dealer reported for MY vin reports my local dealer not my purchasing dealer. The site does NOT have any records of service for my car.
