In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Having just purchased a Genesis with all the gadgets. Seems like a good idea to get an extended warranty. I have found two Hyundai dealers who offer Hyundai plans at reasonable prices One is in DelRay the other Muncie. The price they quoted for a 7 year 100k mile Platinum plan is $1100, this is with a $100 deductible. Anyone have dealings with either of these dealers?

Question!
1. If you bought your car new, it already has a 10 year 100k mile warranty on the running gear, and the rest of the car also has a very good warranty. (Audio and DIS I guess is only two or three years). Why would you want to pay extra for a warranty that you already have?
2. Do you really want to take a chance with an aftermarket warranty (DelRay and Muncie) when aftermarket warranties normally are not worth the paper they are printed on. (Big expose on Orlando TV a few weeks ago, showing how aftermarket warranties were not paying for repairs, saying that it was not a covered part, or caused by a non covered part breaking first). Also, lets just say that you pay $1500.00 for an extended warranty, with a $100.00 deductable. Also assume that the company does fix the problem. That first fix will have cost you $1600.00. Even buying it from a Hyundai dealer does not mean anything. That dealer is making a large commission on the sale. If and when the extended warranty company goes out of business, or turns your claim down, or fixes the problem with used parts, it is not the dealers fault and you can't go after him.

3. I listen to Clark Howard, (the consumer warrier) on the radio and on HLN, and also on www.clarkhoward.com and he says that you are throwing your money away buying an extended warranty for anything.

Lastly, I am surprised that your purchasing dealers F&I guy did not put the pressure on you to buy the extended warranty at that dealership. They put a lot of pressure on me, so I had to tell them two things. First, I pointed to my forhead and said "It does not say stupid up here" and second, I told them
"What part of NO don't you understand?" (The F&I guy makes the most money for a dealership and for himself - even more than managers).

Good Luck

I agree, and so does Conusmer Report. These extened warrranties are a waste of money. I never owned a car that would have benefited from one.

I generally don't buy extended warranties but this one actually made sense to me so I bought Hyundai's (not a third party) zero deductible 10year/100000 mile Platinum Protection plan for $1200, and I believe the bumper-to-bumper coverage peace of mind is worth it.

I don't expect Hyundai to go out of business during that period and there is certainly a good chance of some expensive problems (electrical, audio, ac, heating, etc.) after 36 or 50 thousand miles with a machine as sophisticated as this. In my experience, labor itself for the diagnostics and repair for relatively small problems can rack up quickly. Over time I also expect (imported) parts for this car to become more expensive (dollar depreciating, inflation looming) so this buys some hedge against that too. In addition, since the plan is transferable, it is worth quite a bit to the new owner if I sell the car before the 10 years/100000 miles are up.

You found a better deal then the ones I came up with. Can you tell me what dealer you purchased that warranty from?
Thanks- Rich

What town is Friz located? Better yet do you have a contact? I can't locate them on line.
Thanks- Rich

When I first looked at their 2010 Genesis prices, http://www.fitzmall.com I thought that they were giving great prices, but then I saw the mouse print that said the prices include the Owner Loyalty Rebates plus another coupon discount. Still good prices over the dealers that have a $5000 bump-up sticker price. Last January, I paid $1000 under list. (They told me it would be $2000 under list, but then they gave me $1000 less for my trade than it was worth, so the net effect was they gave me $1000 under list).

Back to the subject. I still don't see them selling a "Hyundai" Extended Service Plan (aka Extended Warranty). If you paperwork has Hyundai printed on it, then it is from Hyundai. If your paperwork has another company printed on it, but the F&I guy typed in that it is for your Hyundai Genesis, then it is an aftermarket warranty, just like those that are hawked on TV, and Telephone sales.

I don't know why Hyundai would sell their own Extended Service Plan, because their warranty is already so good, but if they did, and you got one, you got a great deal.

If you purchased an aftermarket Extended Service Plan, good luck.

ctrcbob, what I got is one of the the Hyundai protection plans they are talking about here: http://www.hyundaiusa.com/owners/carcare/servicecontracts.aspx. All the paperwork is definitely Hyundai paperwork.

The dealerships have the detailed options and pricing schedules and the cost is, of course, negotiable.

ASHS,

I stand corrected. Did not know that this even existed. When I bought my car, the dealer tried to get me to buy an aftermarket extended service plan.
What you bought sounds great, especially for the price you paid. As I said before, if anyone wants to buy an extended service plan, only get the one offered by the manufacturer, not by an aftermarket company, even if the aftermarket one is sold by a dealer.

I also bought the Company extended warrenty plan, but I paid 1500.00 dollars for ir. Seemed to be the right thing to do for a car with such complicated systems and my predeliction to keep a car for ten years.

They said it covers EVERYTHING includeing LED bulbs!

I do not have a copy of the actual warrenty statement but that link looks to be it.;)

Well I finally did purchase an Extended Warranty. ASHS I called the dealer in your link but he tried to sell me a non Hyundai warranty. Finally got one from Muncie that cost $1079 plus $78 tax for a 7 year 100k mile with $100 deductible that is a Hyundai platinum warranty. This mainly to give me piece of mind on the electronics. Thanks for the lively conversation.

rangerich, what dealer did you go through? Hell, I'd pay that, but I don't think I am going to get it for that now that my car has 15K on it.

Bob

As I said Muncie or Hyundaiofmuncie. Jim Raines was my contact there. I think the cutoff is 10k miles. You should check it out if you are interested.

I was wondering if that is Muncie Indiana! I am from the Shelbyville, IN area. I drove all the way to Cincinnati to get my Genesis...

(I am working on my MBA at Ball State through the distance education program...)

I don't go to Muncie too frequently...but at least I can see how much the warranty would cost through them..

Thanks!

Bob

I just bought the 2010 Genesis and I'm looking to get the extended warranty which I did not get from the dealer at the time of purchase. According to http://www.hyundaiusa.com/help-faq.aspx, the warranty Hyundai offers is a third party warranty:

In addition to the vehicle warranty, do you offer an extended service plan?

Hyundai Motor America offers several options that will help you to protect your valuable investment.

When you choose the Hyundai Protection Plan that's right for you, you can be covered for up to 164,000 total miles, depending upon the mileage of your vehicle. And if you buy the protection plan at the same time as you purchase your vehicle, you may be able to include the cost of the plan in the financing of your vehicle. For more details, visit the Hyundai Vehicle Protection Plans page.

This page leads to http://jmagroup.com/Hyundai.aspx and after further reading you get to this: The Hyundai Protection Plan is administered by Fidelity Warranty Services, Inc. Florida License #60026. 500 Jim Moran Boulevard, Deerfield Beach, FL. 33442.

The brochure from the above site explains the benefits:

There was a nice read about extended warranties in Car and Driver: http://www.caranddriver.com/feature...ties_peace_of_mind_or_something_else_-feature

Is it still possible to get the extended warranty through Hyundai and not the aftermarket?
