  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2009 4.6 with about 50K miles on it... I am looking at getting an extended warranty. Dealership quoted me $2,500 for another 60K miles bumper to bumper, just like factory warranty.

Is it worth it first of all? Second, is that a decent price?

Thanks.

Bought an extended warranty once and never recouped my investment. Since then I have not purchased one with any of my vehicles, which I tend to keep until 75-100K and have not had any major issues that would have been covered. Perhaps I've been lucky but I don't see the value in them.

There are a couple of good threads on this in this forum - run a search.

In a nutshell, the best price for the Hyundai ext wrty many here have found is available from Jim Ellis Hyundai here in Atlanta. Just call them and ask for Jennifer re an extended warranty.

In my opinion, you should definitely consider a warranty if you can get the price down a bit and you have the tech pkg. I was quoted 1360 for a 10/100 near b to b warranty, but my car has only 5k miles on it.

Keep in mind this does not cover everything such as adaptive cc, LDWS and parking sensors, but it seems to cover most everything else - it covers the stereo which can be a $3000 repair if it dies on you.

Member Philth has found a potentially interesting wty via his insurance company (Geico maybe, check the thread, I don't recall). He pays something like $10 mon, but I think there are some limitations with respect to age or miles on the car and you must be the original owner, which lets me out.

I'd read every post to the other two threads and that will give you a lot of ammo for your decision.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

There are other threads on this subject, and general consensus is:
  • If you have the technology package and are keeping your car for awhile, it is probably worth it, because if anything goes wrong with your audio/video system it is a minimum $3K to replace the unit (parts only). They never repair the units, they only replace them.
  • $2500 is a rip-off. You should be able to get it for $1200-$1500. Normally you can shop around and purchase it at any dealership (inlcuding those online), but not sure for a CPO vehicle.
Verfiy that it is the Platinum Warranty coverage that also extends the audio/video/GPS electronics to 10 years.

If the warranty is from the dealer, might be worth it. But if it's a Hyundai factory warranty......it's not worth the paper it's printed on

IMO no extended warranties are worth the cost. Chances are you will never recoup your $2500.

I dunno - my AV/Nav head unit went out shortly after the factory warranty expired. I had purchased the HMA extended bumper-to-bumper warranty for $1200 (Jim Ellis Hyundai in Atlanta) and the head unit was replaced with a new (not rebuilt) unit with no questions asked. This was a $3000+ repair, so yes, my warranty was well worth the price. Obviously if you purchase a warranty and never have to use it the money is wasted, but in that regard everything in life is a crap shoot: sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug :D.

Having worked in the auto service industry (dealership and small shop), this is ass-backwards. 3rd party warranties are ginormous scams and completely worthless. It can take up to a week to get authorization for repairs even on smaller fixes in my experience, they ALWAYS cheap out and cut corners ("Do X and Y but not Z" or "Use the absolute cheapest part you can get to fix it"), and they aren't against using used parts either. Meanwhile auto manufacturer warranties are MUCH quicker because the dealership can authorize most repairs themselves, they do complete repairs, they use OEM parts, and they don't use used parts either.

I've sent the Atlanta dealership an email. My dealership refuses to email me back after I asked for a reduction in price... I'll let you know what they say.

I do have the 09 Genesis 4.6 Tech Package, so this may be worth it. There are a few TSB's, etc that I'd like done in the future and wouldn't mind the peace of mind. Does it also extend the road side assistance?

I just recently began to also have thoughts about the merits of an extended warranty. My 2009 3.8 premium won't hit 60 months till next June. This week I'll be crossing 21,000 miles on the car, and will likely be somewhere around 25,000 to 27,000 miles when the five year bumper to bumper comes to an end.

Granted, I don't have the factory navigation, but still wonder if protecting myself against replacements or repairs to the moonroof, power seats, doors or windows etc will make sense. I absolutely love my car and I would be my intent to keep the car for three additional years.

Most likely, in another year I'll purchase a new primary vehicles and my 09 Genesis become my 2nd car, meaning it may only get a couple thousand miles annually.

You'll have to see how far the warranty will be extended - the older your car, the less extension you'll get (for the same premium). Check with Jim Ellis in Atlanta - they will have the best deal and will give you the info you need.

Bought my Genny used with 3k on her back in '09 I think. I have the 4.6 tech as well and the only thing thats really crapped out on me was the parking sensors. I honestly didn't realize they didn't work for a while. Nonetheless they don't work and I won't pay to have them fixed. The Nav/Sat has been working OK. I do have intermittent issues with the antenna that I need to investigate. Only seems to restrict the Sirius/XM though. Nav always works but since I got my trusty new smart phone I've been using that more now anyways. The NAV as far as I'm concerned is extremely dated. I do still use it every now and then though.

I'm up around 90K mi for what its worth... every car is different but if I can hit 100K without any "real" issues I will consider this car a good buy.

I'm crossing my fingers....

We bought a Ford extended warranty on our '09 Taurus. Had a heated seat element replaced last year and now the AC compressor is ready to be replaced at 56,000 mi. The total cost of these two repairs would be more than we paid for the warranty. One year of warranty coverage remains. We won the game "this time."
