  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
Okay, so I just got a 2015 genesis 3.8 sedan. My question is, does hyundai themselves offer any extended warranty packages? Or would I have to go through a third party to get an extended warranty?

Hyundai does not cover your 2015 at all, nor would it offer you a warranty for sale unless you purchased a CPO model from a Hyundai/Genesis dealership. You will have to go through a third party warranty company.

I would try to have a extended warranty financed in to your auto loan by your bank ; if you are using one for this purchase ASAP. I say this because some banks will allow you to add some features like extended warranties to the loan during the approval process soon after a sale. Therefore, an $3k warranty will only be a few extra dollars a month added to your car payments.

Yes If I was you I would purchese a warrenty. Either a $1500 one or $3000 one. One transmission job and you will have that warranty paid for.

If you don't buy it with the car, check out Endurance. They are the better provider.

Can confirm. Ask me how I know (sans warranty) >_<;;

Funny, I just got one from Endurance after a transmission job had me, let's say, non-plussed. How has your experience with them been?

I've not used them. I have a CPO and added on the extended service contract to 10/100,000. Endurance is one of the better aftermarket service contracts. I created a thread years ago where I went into all the details on the providers. Endurance and the Hyundai contracts were the only ones that were open 24/7. Many of the other companies are 9 to 5 EST. Which means you have a break down and need a tow after 5, you're getting the shaft. Another is parts approvals. Most of the companies have simple adjusters that can approve repairs under a certain amount? Go over and you're waiting until the next day. There are a bunch of exclusions too. Most of the electrical steering systems aren't covered under contract because Hyundai placed the unit in a position where it can be damaged by debris or hitting something. They'll tell you to file a claim with your auto insurance (and pay that deductible). Head Unit is another notorious piece. Controls everything and if it goes out, better hope your contract covers it. With labor, you are looking at $5k.

Seems I've blundered my way into one of the best service contract providers, so thanks for confirming that.

This being my first luxury car, I waited until I can afford one with a hideously immense financial margin to fix transmissions/sunroofs/etc. With Endurance Warranty + Repair Fund + Replace The Whole freaking Car Fund between me and a head unit/mechanical catastrophe, I'm hopeful that owning luxury cars like this will eventually feel even more enjoyable and normal.

From what I know, Endurance is a good payer..but then again, you are paying for it monthly (they are one of the most expensive companies). The game for these insurance companies is two fold. Limit payouts and invest monthly fees wisely. There are some really garbage plans out there that are for better or worse, fly by night. So, I always recommend if you are not buying from the manufacturer's extended contract company to read reviews yearly. If the company covering you falters, find a different company.
I used Authority Auto to help find, buy and get the Genesis transported to me. They had two companies that they got fees from to sell their plans. That's how I found all the dirty little gotchas were in the contracts. Hours of service, limited approvals, no late night assistance, no rental car assistance, no hotel assistance and parts limitations.

If you scan most of the posts here and under the G80 thread, these cars are built well for the most part. I'd take my Genesis ANY DAY over a AUDI, BMW, Cadillac, Lincoln or Mercedes Benz. Acuras are good, but they are in a different category than the "big boys" mentioned.

Things that can be annoying our cars: propeller shaft making noise, moonroof gaskets leaking or getting off track, sticking window seals (rejuvinate with pure Silicone Grease), Head Unit and EPS.

This stuff is AMAZING. Expensive, but a little goes a long way. I use it on the moonroof rails and the seals. (Knock on wood) I haven't had any issues.

Same experience here; most of the issues I've had with the car was a dealer mechanic who didn't know how to do the sunroof (got full refund + apology + found a better shop). Transmission did go out on me, but it wasn't a huge surprise / i was driving it like a teenager, and other than those new luxury car owner / new luxury brand teething problems it's been a great car.

Thanks for the tip on Kryton, adding it to my TLC routine for this car. One thing I concede is that Genesis doesn't know how to do moon roofs, because even the brand new G80 they loaned me still creaked/rattled. Overall, I got the Genesis as the "daily driver" to prepare for crazier cars like AMG Mercedes, BMW Ms and so on, and I'm glad it was by far the right choice for so many of us.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

No worries. For the most part, everyone on this board is super helpful, always willing to make suggestions and share their own experiences. Compared to the other luxury brands, the hourly rate is lower to perform repairs. I suggest a battery tester as most gremlins are due to a bad battery. Replacements can be bought at significant discounts at local part stores and unlike BMW they do not have to be coded to the car. Clean the terminals to get a good seating.
As I stated earlier, I keep a can of WD40 Silicone spray around for use on the window seals. Reserve the KRYTOX for the moonroof and other super sensitive applications. In some cases, I applied it and didn't need to reapply for almost a year. Whom ever came up with it should get an award.

Any dealer contact for an extended factory VSC. Thinking of getting one for my 2018 G80 5.0 since i still have the original warranty
Having issues with A/C suddenly stop blowing after running in the heat for 20 mins as well the proximity sensors going off randomly.

- Sent a message to Larry C - referenced earlier in the forums, but no response yet.

There is a thread here about AC in the rain that may have some answers about your problem.

If you are considering one, max it out with a Platinum 10/100,000

Heard great things about Endurance Warranty, and got their 5 year deal. Gonna test drive it in a few days for some minor stuff and report back.

Nice part about Endurance is that you can extend it further, if you want.

Dealer just told me that they cannot offer the Genesis extended warranty because I'm not the original owner. The 10yr powertrain does not transfer to the second owner and so they cannot extend the factory warranty. Offered their own bumper to bumper PPP warranty for $2.8k for 5 yrs, but the number of horror stories that popped up on the first google search would turn anyone away. Endurance also wanted 2.8k with a $100 deductible.
So, I'm going to continue to ask more Genesis dealers. If anyone has reliable contacts, please PM me.

Has your bumper to bumper 4/50 expired? If so, then no you can't get the HPP. The Powertrain 10/100 coverage only extends to the second owner if the dealer pays Hyundai $1000 to call it a CPO vehicle. Otherwise, you are stuck in the Third Party warranty zone. Lots of choices. Dealers usually sell garbage...plans that pay the biggest bribes...I mean, incentive to the Finance Manager.
I've done at length research on this topic (look for my warranty thread). If you don't want to read the tons of crap...I mean, helpful paperwork that I looked at (literally kept me busy for a few days) then Endurance is probably one of the best providers. You can buy a plan and then pay it off in monthly installments. They let you read all of the paperwork before making a decision and they lay out the price. No back and forth bs at the dealer. There are a few people here that have coverage with Endurance. Feel free to reach out. And if you need more help, post here and I'm sure one of us can help you out.
