  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

has anyone with this model changed anything audio wise? other than adding a sub woofer? seems like i just can't get the music loud enough. even with a retail CD it just doesn't cut it. Anybody changed out the door speakers, tweeters etc? Is there any way to get past the stock limiter to increase sound? the EQ also seems to suck as even on -10 the bass on the speakers is too loud.

So has it changed since your test drives?

I asked about change because if it has then you may have a problem with the amp in the system which would be covered under warranty.

thanks for the useless input, i'm asking about other owners 3.8 experience with their audio and what they may have done to improve it.

You do realize that he asked a legit question correct? You also realize that the 3.8, 4.6, and 5.0 share the same audio systems, correct? Because it sounds like you think that the 3.8 has a proprietary audio system or something....

I think the audio is great. Had car since last May.

2012 3.8 Tech Premium, the sound system is fabulous !:)

Better than most cars I owned but still not the best. Probably because I took audio class in college and i am so damn bloody picky when it comes to music...always having my music files on the highest kbps....

but back to your question my friend who has the genesis added a nice subwoofer and amplifier. 2 amps, one for subs and one for his speakers. Sounded much better than stock but if you want the best of the best i guess you would have to replace the whole speakers aswell.

I have a 2012 gen non navi and I had a 2011 Genesis Coupe rpsec and the audio seems on par with that. Def not the greatest, but it's def a decent stock system. The mids aren't great and I have them set @ -3, and the bass and treble @ +10. Def sound decent for my music (rap/hip hop), but is in no way shape or form anywhere near the lexicon.

Maybe there's an issue with yours? Take a trip to the stealership and compare. If it still doesn't float your boat, time to invest in some components and amp.

thanks for the input and sorry for the misunderstanding, thought the post was condescending about why i purchased it if it noticed it at the dealer. no it seems the same i mean its good but in my lexus gs the highs were great and in this car their not even on par turned all the way up. looks like im gonna have to go after market. has anyone replaced the head unit? is it possible to do a double din in the Non nav edition?

i was just indicating my model and the fact that it is the non nav so that people realize i have the most basic of audio system on my model.

My friend had the 2011 TL and his stock sound system was bloody awesome! for stock it was really good! until he got into a car accident and got himself a lexus GS....but i still havent heard his GS' audio system.

As for your question I'm going around looking for aftermarkets as well around my town! will let you know if i find something! :D

Not sure what you mean by "non-nav". Both the premium package (14-speaker Lexicon audio system) and Technology Package (17 speaker Lexicon audio system) have pretty good sound systems. They both have Nav systems (but they are different Nav systems).

If you don't have Nav on your 2012 you have the Base Trim level Genesis Sedan. Please repeat after me 10 times. Base Level Trim, Base Level Trim, ....

If you wanted a better audio system you should have purchased at least the Premium Package. Personally, I don't think that the Base Level Trim audio is that bad, but I don't listen to rap or hip/hop, nor do I distort the frequency response by adjusting the tome controls to such ridiculous levels.

The Genesis (or any other modern car I am aware of) does not use DIN mounting. They want to you purchase their own audio upgrades by upgrading trim levels (Premium or Tech packages) if you want a better sound system. There is a long thread by a custom audio installer in this forum who did a very high quality install on a Genesis that will get you want you want. He is located in San Jose CA area. But I would estimate that the system he did would cost you about $20K (but you may get some nice auto sound competition trophies).

The nav comes with 17 speaker DVD system, premium 14 speaker is a up grade but no nav, then there is the base level trim.

correction to above: premium does have touch screen dvd nav system with 14 speakers.

I am not sure whether Premium Package has DVD, but it definitely has Nav in 2012. This was not the case in 2009, but I it changed in 2010 or 2011 (don't recall).

But the Nav in Premium Package is not exactly the same as Nav in Technology Package.

Its dvd based navigation vs. nav from hard-drive.
