  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Factory Oil Filter Only??

I'll have the beer later - LOL..right now I'm on my morning mug of coffee....:woot:

This is what I came into work to find on my desk. I don't think my coworkers believe coffee is enough for me anymore.

Any part numbers for reference? OEM# ?? Fram ?? Wix ?? any others ??
And are you using 5w20 oil?

This is a perfect example as to why you should only use the OEM oil filter for the Genesis.

If the photo of the Wix filter is accurate (questionable, see below), the above oil filter is actually identical as the OEM, manufactured in South Korea by Mann for Hyundai and (maybe) Wix. However it is for the 2009-2011 3.8 V6, not for the 2012 (first year of GDI engine).

The correct oil filter for the 2012 V6 is Hyundai part number 26320-3C30A:
https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Hyun...F8&qid=1527094345&sr=8-1&keywords=26320-3c30a

Starting in 2012, not only did the 3.8 change from port injection to GDI, they moved the oil filter from the top of the engine (near the firewall facing straight up) to the bottom of the engine facing down, obviously with a different oil filter module (made by Mahle). So even when the aftermarket filter is a good one (identical to the OEM), the aftermarket reference charts often are not correct.

However, if the photo of the Wix is not accurate (as suggested by this Reilly Auto Parts and Rock Auto sites below), then Wix is using a knock-off made in China (not made by Wix but sold by them):

Rock Auto sells the Chinese Wix for $3.97

STAY WITH THE OEM OIL FILTER, both to make sure it fits correctly (much more critical for a cartridge filler than a spin on one), and to make sure the filter cross-reference charts are correct (they often are not when it comes to after-market oil filters on the Genesis).
