Several questions and I hope you good folks can help.
I'm at 5,700 miles on a car after 8 months. I get the 6,000 factory required service tomorrow. When do I go back for the 12,000 factory required service? 12,000 or by 11,700? I'm assuming the the maintenance trigger is every 6,000 miles on the vehicle, not 6,000 between each service.
Seems to me based on bits and pieces I've picked up in posts, it would be 12,000 because this is the interval the factory reimburses the dealer for? Anything more frequently could be at the cost of the owner, right?
Another way to look at it...the factory covers the first 3 years/36,000 miles of normal maintenance. If I don't drive 12,000 miles / year (under 6,000 now after 8 months of ownership), then instead of getting six (6) scheduled maintenance appointments, I'll get fewer based on lower miles. The alternative is go in every six months, even if the 6,000 mileage trigger isn't satisfied.
Hope that makes sense. I want to maximize my use of the complimentary scheduled maintenance during the first 3 years/36,000 miles. Even if that means going every 3,000 for "severe service." I'm assuming this is fine as long as I don't exceed six (6) scheduled maintenance appointments in 3 years. This is the purpose of the first question as this would cause me to be out of sync with the every 6,000 mile requirement. I'm certainly not going in every 3,000 miles after the 3 year milestone has been reached.
