  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just got my new 2011 White/saddle Genesis 4.6 last Friday. I've began reading about window tinting on this forum, but noticed that it looks like my car already has some tint (sunroof is pretty dark, rear window - not that much, side windows - slightly, there's dark stripe on the windshield) The window sticker doesn't list any tinting, so I'm wondering if that's what everyone have?
There's photo in my album

Everyone has the same factory glass, which is tinted to some degree, like almost all other cars on the road.

I noticed the same thing when I bought my car. The dealer asked me if I wanted to tint the windows which caused me to double take. I stared hard at the windows and he told me that it was just a factory tinting but they could apply a proper tint for like $170. I told him that it looked pretty tinted already and I wasn't sure if I wanted to fork out extra cash for what already seemed to come with the car.

Mind you that it was a used car btw but I still wouldn't think the dealer would offer to tint a car that was already tinted. I get asked the same question when I take the car to service each time too, I think they are required to ask me that question.

Maybe someday I will spring for it but for now, I just don't see the point.

If you live in the south or where the sun is very intense due to altitude or very low humidity (Denver), you would understand the point. For northern climates, tinting is often a matter of privacy and aesthetics.

If you do tint your windows, understand that there are many different types of tint film, with different looks and different heat/UV characteristics. Each type of tint film also comes in various degrees of VLT (visable light transmission).

Nobody needs it. It's just a nice to have depending on where you live, how often your car is parked in the sun, how much privacy you want, etc.

If you need real heat protection, make sure you get a ceramic tint film, which will cost about $300-$350 installed by a high quality shop. A $200 tint job is just for looks (smoked glass look). Tint laws in CA are very strict, and you cannot install more than 70% VLT on driver and front passenger windows, so tint jobs are not as prevalent in CA as some other states.

Thank you

i got 20% tints on my black 4.6. 20% + factory tint = 16% front and 14% back. how do i know? a lovely female officer who actually cares about illegal tints took a reading.

Well at least it's a non-moving violation etc. Here in the great white (or desert, 115 degree heat index today) the only time the film would have to be removed is if the ticket was a "fix it, ticket". If it was just a standard ticket = fee, then the film could stay on, but the risk of another ticket is present. Fortunatly, many areas in MN are not strict on enforcing tint laws.

yea i just paid off the 1st warning ticket which was 30+ court fees which in va is 63 bucks (!!!!!).

never took off tint and haven't ever gotten a ticket since. still get thumbs up from officers though....
