  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fair Trade-in Price From Dealer

Tax savings? Maybe in your state but not in my state, California. If you live in California, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana or Washington, D.C., you pay sales tax on the full price of the new vehicle, regardless of your trade-in allowance!
yeah that sucks and makes no sense. You are essentially getting double taxed

When i bought my truck, i was given a lower trade in value than i could have gotten elsewhere, but by the time you factored in the $4k savings on taxes, it ended up being more than I had gotten offers to sell it for. makes it a no brainer imo.

That tax savings probably going the way of the DoDo bird everywhere. Surprised it’s lasted this long.
Theres only a handful of states that dont give you a credit. Id be more willing to bet those states come around than the other 45 states get rid of it.

Even Illinois came around.

A lot of people still have loans on their cars which makes it harder to sell privately. If the loan is at a local bank, not too much of a problem. but usually that is not the casel I paid off my last car when I knew I was going to get rid of it so I could sell it privately, but the Genesis dealer gave me such a good price that I just traded it in. Like others said, with the sales tax advantage, it was about the same as selling it private and no hassles.

2022 GV70 3.5 Advanced Brunswick (matte) green and Vanilla beige 31k on it. 12-26-22 Traded it for a 2023 G80 2.5 awd Prestige…gave me $51k and $6,400 off msrp. It’s all about the dealership Bergstrom Appleton, WI. My trade in is still on the lot asking $53k.
