  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So Friday evening around 6:15 I had quite a collision with another vehicle, that was making an illegal left U-turn across a 4 lane road between a gas station and a restaurant. All parties are relatively okay, although I have neck and back pain and a concussion from the ordeal. Pics of the crash and aftermath:

As you can see she's preeeeetty buckled up. We hit when I was doin probably 40 - 50 km/h, hard to say. She just jumped right out into traffic about 30' - 50' ahead of me after pulling a nice little U-turn. Perhaps I'll try another kind of vehicle since the G70 isn't out yet, see what else is around. But for now, farewell Genesis Sedan (adjuster pending), you will be missed.

Glad to hear you are relatvely in good shape. Sorry though about the car. What did you hit your head on to produce the concussion? I'm not familiar with the safety features on the 2015 but did any of them kick in? How did the other driver fair? I can't quite tell what kind of car it was.

The other driver and her passenger were apparently in good physical condition, although the passenger suffers from anxiety, so she was having a bad panic attack. After that she was pretty good.

The safety features did kick in; the autonomous emergency braking system kicked in, and the forward collision mitigation. Also, the driver side wheel and footwell airbags deployed. I believe it was the wheel bag that gave me a concussion along with the whiplash associated with colliding into a relatively stationary object more so than any physical impact.

That being said, the car appeared out of nowhere in my lane, with respect to the vision of the infrared sensors; within about 30' - 50' of my front bumper, so there wasn't very much time for any safety functions to do their job, it was for all intents and purposes, an entirely unavoidable incident on my part once her car came into my lane. There was traffic in all lanes, so the only thing I could do was veer as much away from her door as possible and collide.

The other car is a 2010s Mazda 3.

Glad to hear you're okay! Sorry about the ride.

glad to hear your ok buddy. i lost my 2016 genny in a very similar accident like yours. at least this gives you an opportunity to get the new genesis. get the sport like me if you want or if you can find a 2017 5.0 you can get it for under 500 a month lease.

Cars can be replaced...

For sure, cars are just material machines. For the purposes of travel, a 2008 Toyota Corolla would do the same job as a 2018 Genesis G80, go from point A to point B; its just how much style you get there in after that.

I'm glad I'm somewhat okay too. Still goin through some head and neck pain, but hopefully its short lived.

I have to disagree with a 2008 Toyota Corolla would do the same job. Looks like your Genesis may have saved your life.
A Corolla would not have given you near the protection.
Thats why we now have a 2018 G80. Safety ratings.
Glad you were not hurt more than you were.

That's fair, but I more so meant for the sole purpose of travel, both do the same job. I do see your point though, hahaha.

I drove a 2014 Corolla as a rental when my Genesis was getting repaired (hit an animal). Fine enough car, but I sure did miss the HUD and the blind-spot detection.

I'm in the market for a new car and was going to hold out for the G70, but I don't think I can wait that long (need to downsize). Will probably order a 2018 MBZ C300 (which I have owned before).

I too lost my 2016 3.8 Hitrac this summer when it was totaled in an accident. After some delay, I replaced it with a 2016 BMW 535d xdrive sedan and look at the loss of the Genesis as a stroke of good fortune. In my opinion, while the Genesis had many of the same options, there is no comparison when driving the two cars at speed. My latest Genesis (and I owned an '09 too) seemed ponderous and under powered. Like the previous person who was more interested in the G70 (than a replacement G80), my wife and I felt the G80 to be too large and more suited as a limo than a sports sedan. For example, the Hyundai's 3.8 liter engine tended to downshift with even moderate grades on interstates, while the BMW's 3 liter diesel tackles similar grades at 1700 rpm in 8th gear. Moreover, it returns 39 mpg at 75 mph. In fairness, both Hyundai's were never serviced for any reason and are likely be much less expensive to operate in every way. Nevertheless, I experienced buyer remorse with the 2016 Genesis and was glad that it could be replaced with a car that I've always wanted.

I am interested in how the Kia Stinger and G70 fare, but have no interest in another G80 unless the next generation is downsized. Finally, I've enjoyed this forum since 2010 and wish its members all the best.

Farewell

Yea, but your comparing the torque of a diesel vs a gasoline motor, its not apples to apples comparison the diesel has a ton more torque to carry the car at a lower rpm. I do agree the Genny needs another 50 to 150 hp.

Yeah, I ended up downsizing fairly considerably to a Mazda CX-5. Honestly, it feels far more sharp and precise, and acceleration is not really an issue, even with the smaller motor. That aside, the interior feels remarkably good for the price point, and the maintenance intervals and resale trend better.

Went with an SUV since we get high accumulations of heavy, wet snow on our highways that doesn't get promptly plowed; so cars just push the stuff, as where an SUV can ride over it. I'm building a house outside the city, so highway driving is going to become a norm for me, and the move to an SUV just makes more sense.

Enjoyed the car while I had it, but I'm glad to be what I'm in, now that I have it. Cheers guys!

It's true the comparing the BMW's 3 liter diesel to Hyundai's 3.8 gas engine is not fair. But honestly, the G80's horsepower and torque figures are not commensurate with it 3.8 displacement. Audi, MB and BMW get so much more out of their smaller engines, but do it with turbos. Hyundai is on the right road with its 3.3 twin turbo, but they must trim down the car's ponderous dimensions. I've been responding to Hyundai surveys since 2010 and have consistently told the company that the Genesis sedans (both generations) were too big relative to their competitors and the G90 is just ridiculous.
