fastest 1/4 mile on rspec 5.0

Actually - I find what is totally hilarious is that people are talking about tracking a freakin Genesis Sedan! lol. I own one, I like the car. It was a nice enough ride for me to buy it and use as my mobile office / commuter. I love the power and it saves miles on my more expensive cars. It is a nice powerful sedan. But to consider tracking this thing is really funny to me. I guess we all have our thing.....

Anyway - Stay safe and have fun.

I track my Genny because of the look on peoples faces when their mustang, camaro, dodge or any other car loses to a fat hyundai sedan. I track my genny because I like being the underdog. I like being the person expected to lose, that makes winning so much better. I track my car because its fun, its a hobby, I dont give a sht if someone doesnt think its a racecar. Its easy for me to go out an buy a mustang or a camaro. I love the cars especially the camaros, but I like being different. I know that im going to be the only sob out there in a genny, oppose to 50million mustang owners and 25million camaro owners. So many people have asked me about the genny, what kind of car is that, man that thing is quick. I dont have to ask the mustang owner what kind of car he has, because he has the same car as the last guy. In other words im going to track this Genny like Kim Kardasians hair extentions ;)

Spot on Onefun! lmao

Great discussion! If the Sedans are like the Coupes, the R-Specs are faster and lighter, with unpublished specs - typical HK. I also assume the Sedan R-Spec has more than just a traction control off/on button? Sport mode, etc?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
"Tracks" are extentions women put in their hair to make it appear to be longer than what it really is. Kim K has alot of "tracks" in her hair. Meaning I will be going to the track as often as I can, which wont be often. Just meant as a joke on Kim K's behalf.

R-Spec sedan is faster but heavier than the 3.8 sedan. No sport mode on them but they do come with a more aggressive suspension out of the box.

Has anyone put wider tires on the rear of the Genesis to see how much it helps with off the line traction? That's the first thing I noticed with this being my first high torque car that you have to be super sensitive with the throttle at time.

The guy in the youtube vid has wider tires in rear. I dont know what size tho. He said it in the comments under mods..

I've wondered about that, although actual aerodynamics don't always turn out like you might think by just looking at it. You would think Hyundai spent some time with both cars in a wind tunnel.

Yea, you would think so.. But then the ZO6 with track package they have found out takes a bunch off the acceleration and speed over 80-90mph on up..

They've dyno tested the Tau 5.0 against the Coyote 5.0 (see Edmund's article). Despite the numbers supplied by the manufacturers the Coyote meets or exceeds the Tau's whp output across the rev band. Any loss the Coyote suffers is due to driver's error.

They all look pretty much the same on this graph in the edmunds article...

Are we looking at the same graph? The Tau may have a 15-20lb/ft advantage (even less for HP) for a 1000 rpms at the very bottom of the rev range, but look at the massive gap in the mid-range from 3500-5k. That's at least 30ft/lbs difference at its peak. The Coyote also pulls noticeably harder at the top when the Tau runs out of breath.

Personally, I can't call that "pretty much the same", especially when the Coyote is advertised to make less power than the Tau and the dyno shows it probably makes more.

My broader point was to address the quote below by showing an apples to apples comparison of power figures on a dyno. If anyone was being liberal with variables when reporting 'factory numbers' it was Hyundai (which they have been penalized for doing before). Throw in the 400+lb weight difference and I stand by my point that a 'Stang driver only loses a drag race to a Gennie due to his/her own incompetence as a driver. That doesn't mean I wouldn't try though.... :p

Sure you can blame the losses on the driver, which is a great possibility. You have to understand that factory numbers supplied by the dealers are perfect weather conditions/ scenarios etc.

Ok, I think we can all agree on what im about to say next. The hyundai genesis was never created to compete against a mustang 5.0. Looking at the charts, every single one clearly has the ford 5.0 making more power, it should its a SPORTS CAR.. The fact that the rspec can even be mentioned in the same breathe in terms of 1/4 mile performance is amazing in itself. This is Hyundais first v8, ever! Of course its a revised 4.6 motor. But look what hyundai has accomplished. The Genny has a 500 to 550 weight disadvantage, it also makes less power. Sure drivers of the stang could make mistakes, but im not the only one whos beating a stang 5.0, wont be the last. Numbers you say, sure lets play numbers game. Genny makes less to the wheels than a stang 5.0, weights 500lbs more but manage only .1th of a sec slower in the 1/4mile. Thats a hell of a accomplishment by hyundai. This is because the Hyundai rspec has much better distribution of its weight. Shes fat ass hell but wears it well, like a pretty fat chic.. If the genny was to lose lets say about 300lbs would she still lose.. probably not.

I agree with blkgenRspec. I traded my '14 Mustang GT six-speed in for my '14 5.0 R-spec sedan. The fact that this debate even exists is a statement in support of the R-spec IMO. The Mustang is a nice car but I like styling of the R-spec better because it's more subtle and less trendy. The R-spec is a subtle muscle car only car guys would even know exists. Everyone noticed the Mustang. Nobody notices the R-spec. So it's easy to surprise when the occasion demands. The R-spec sedan gives me superb driving dynamics, excellent power, and is every bit the equal of the Germans. (I owned a 2008 M-3 sedan before the Mustang.)

So, interesting I had this thread in mind as I got blown away by a Roush 5.0 at a stoplight the other day. Turned green and all I saw was tail lights. And all I heard was nothing because the G-D thing was so loud I lost hearing for a bit lol

Nice to know that logical people still exist. (Onefun) I believe some roush stangs are supercharged, that being said. Blown v8s are beasty, see 04 termi
for more info lol.. Id love to have bi turbo's OR A SUPERCHARGER for the rspec...

Couple of things... That chart has something they are not telling.. The hoods of the GT and SS were open, fans blowing on them, with CAI. Genny had no such advantage, and was using the stock air system (flapper and all). Also, the dynos have a problem with the 8 speed auto. And if not driven correctly on the rollers will under report HP. All kinds of odd dunno factors on how the measuring goes in could easily under report HP on the Tau.

In real life, no matter what some 4.6 owners with phallic envy say, the 5.0 Tau has won.. Period. Combination of the better 8 speed gearing helping offset the weight problem, and possible the GTs had their CAI heat soaked, or stock systems, bad driving, whatever, first Generation Gennys will continue to hold their own, and accurate reports of beating GTs and other cars will continue. Regardless of the keyboard naysayers.

I for one have had previous fun mocking the Tau for being a copy of the modular V8 system of Ford. Which is true.., however, I will defend the Genny, and people who have won over certain cars. Those phallic jealous others who mock these real life wins, can keep on yapping.

In the past I was mocked because I beat (with my first Gen Genny) a new M4. Well. It happened.. Late at night when I was getting gas, I heard the horrible sounding (sounds like a 1967 Ford of Chevy straight 6 panel bread van without a muffler and running on nitrous) M4 racing himself from stop light to stop light. No traffic. I was finishing up and pulled out. Anyway we raced from 30mph on, and I pulled ahead of him slightly by few yards. Only way this could happen is if he could not drive it (he was wide open because it was so loud beyond belief beside me and as I pulled past him), his vaunted water cooled intercooler was heat soaked, he was running crap gas, or something. The outcome did happen.. And sparked horrible drive by verbal assaults by numbskulls. It should not have happened.. The M4 had at least 450 lbs advantage, and 5-10 percent more published power. It was a manual. Whatever... He lost that time.

Oh, BTW.. Will be posting BMW latest vaunted tech "innovation" later... They have designed a J. C. Whitney inspired water injection system to "increase mileage and performance by 10-18%". Sound like a claim right out of the Whitney catalog. Geez.. Can't the German come up with something innovative? Using a old dog trick which they claim will be in every BMW in the coming years.. Instead of fuel to cool down the combustion process to prevent damage, they will inject water... I have an idea.. Design a motor that does not need either. This is silliness to bandaid design flaws.

Yep, she was supercharged according to the modest cowl induction scoop lol
