  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What ever you want to say ! bring it ...

Current situation 2010 Genesis v6 tech package , titanium grey , wings hood and trunk , show room condition , 5 year paint protection plan, 7000 miles , purchased in May of 2010.

Looks like I am going to retire between now and 55 ( turn 54 in July )
My loan is high 35,000.00

Goals - Down size vehicle, payment and need better gas milage.

Do I need to do this before or after I retire? Im married but the loan is in my name . I figured I would need to downsize before I retire.

I also thought it would be best to go back to hyunda and downsize with them but I would like to go back to a bssic camery for retirement.

what cha think guys ?

If I were in your shoes, I'd opt for the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. I expect it to be the best compromise between price, size, appointments and gas mileage for you. If buying into Hyundai's first model year of NA commercially-available hybrid technology doesn't float your boat, then the other variations on the Sonata could be your thing... I suspect there's a reason they've sold so many of 'em.

If you want something more "luxurious" (though not luxury) but at a lower price than the Genesis, the new upcoming Azera looks like it'll be real nice.

If you do owe $35k, I would say you are pretty much stuck for a while. If you were to get a $25k trade allowance the rest would have to be rolled into the next car. Say a Sonata Hybrid at $29k plus the balance on the old Genesis of $10k rolled in now you are $39k into a cheaper car. This is not a good situation. You could not save enough on gas to ever be whole again. Your best bet is to work this next year to pay down as much of the note as you can on the Genesis and see where you are when you are ready to retire.

Keep what you have. If you trade the car in you will most likely owe more. You may be upside down on your loan now, check that first. Best long term as far as smart management of money is to keep the car you have until you pay it off, then sell it and put that money toward a new car. If you trade yours in now a new car may cost more in insurance, taxes etc. I may take you years (10 or more) to recover the cost of gas difference alone.

I am retired also. At the end of the day, you will take a bath in getting rid of your genesis to save $100.00 per month. If that's an issue, don't retire.

IF you really have to retire and have to get rid of the Genny and still have a high loan to pay, at the trade in price you'll get you might want to consider something smaller / cheaper than Azera or Sonata.
Someone in this forum downsized from Genesis to the new Elantra LX. I know it is drastic change, but he seemed to be happy, especially with the MPG and amenities of the Elantra.

The Camry base model is below $20K, but then again it is the very base model. The best car is the one that will fulfill your needs next year when you retire, if you find yourself driving alone or only 2 pople ride the car for most of the year and you are concerned about money and MPG maybe you don't need a large luxury car.

Good luck!

I don't get enough sex at home. Should I get a hooker, refrain from intimacy or buy a blow up doll? I am close to retirement and have a weak heart. My wife is into crossword puzzles and doesn't make meatloaf the way I like it. By the way I want good mileage. What should I do?

i also need a car with enough room at the back to have sex....can you suggest me a car with very spacious room and fine suspension so that it does not shake too much while drilling.

How about something like this? It uses no gasoline at all and appears to be quite spacious. I assume the curtains in back can be closed for privacy, and I'm sure the suspension is quite sturdy.

Obviously...drive your wife more...;)
