  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just picked up my 2010 4.6 last night. Wow! A lot to become familiar with. My last 3 vehicles have been an E350, Lexus LS 430, and BMW 740IL, and I must say this vehicle can stand with those others easily. I have a 50 mi. ride to work, and averaged 26 MPH the first time out. I still have not been able to sync my phonebook over to the Bluetooth. I had read previously posts stating the car is not equipped to do that. Would hate having to manually input all those numbers.

Thanks to all on this site as you have helped me make this decision easy.

The car gets amazing highway mileage. It's clear this car was built for Noth American highway cruising. The city mileage isn't great, but it's not bad. Mixed driving i'm getting 400 a tank, before it shows empty, pure highway roadtripping 500+. The tank will show E with about 4 gallons left.
Time will only solidify your decision. There are a lot of hidden surprises in this car, that aren't obvious till you either find them by accident, or read about them on this blog.
Welcome, and enjoy.

I see our car colors are identical. Maybe I, too, am one of the most interesting men in the world. LOL.

Few suggestions:
Tape: There is so much protective tape on this car that, I just found some more last week and I have owned this car for 7 months . Scour the car and peel off all the shipping tape. Check Sunroof, defector, in between seats, etc.
Gas: Don't waste your money on premium fuel. I know gas is cheap in Jersey cause I lived in tri state for 10 years, but if you can tell a real difference than you are more interesting than me.
Tire pressue: Play with the tire pressure. If the ride is too harsh, set it lower at cold say 30-32. If you are ok with the ride and are more sport oriented set it 33-35 and see how it works for you.
Tires: I know it doesn't snow that much where you are and most of it melts pretty quick, but people have reported that the tires on this car are horrible in the snow which should be pretty aparent by looking at them. They are more performance than all season, keep this in mind.

Speaking of the tires, these Dunlops are not very well thought of in the tire community. My regular tire guy is urging me to switch to the Michelin Pilot or the Continental Extreme Contact. Thoughts??

First, congrats on the car! The genesis reminds me a lot of my old 740iL, which I loved.

Second, yes Dunlops are not my favorite brand of tire. Contis, Kumhos, Bridgestones, I prefer, and the car comes with Kumhos in Korea.

They certainly don't get very good reviews on tirerack.com for sure. Personally, I like the Dunlop tires, I think they are a good balance of comfort and sport. The two tires you mention are probably good choices for all seasons, but like I said, RWD, 50 series tires and 375HP V8 are recipies for really poor driving in winter conditions. I live somewhere where it never snows so it's not an issue for me.
Tires are very subjective thing. Personally, I think Michelins are very good tires but way overpriced. Don't know much about the Continentals you mentioned as I think they are fairly new. If I were you, I would switch tires after the Dunlops are done. Swapping out tires now is pretty much a waste of money. I don't think either of the tires you mentioned are gonna be that much different in the snow than the OEM's.

Bringstone serenity or Goodgyear assurance comfort treads are better ratings at tire rack and better ride IMO. Most folks rate the 5000M as a lesser quality but that someones rating. If you like em keep em.

I must say with the Dunlops I get a little more road noise than I'm accustomed to. I leased the car for 3 years at 25k miles per, so I will be switching out the tires at least once. The question is, get the Michelins now during the honeymoon period, or at 30k miles or so. We'll see.

On another note, my dealership Lynne Hyundai(or as I refer to them, Lynne Genesis) swapped out my trunk lid after I detected a small paint scratch near the new wings. So my first service dept. experience... not too bad. Although they were the ones who put the scratch in in the first place, right? LOL.

Ah, my 1997 740IL. My fav car of all time !!

They replaced/swapped out the entire trunk lid? I guess that means the buyer of the vehicle who now has your old trunck lid will be in for a rude surprise if they don't do a close inspection of their trunk lid!

hopefully they'll at least repaint it, but that wasn't working for me.

I had Dunlops on a Porsche and they were useless in terms of even basic traction imo, and that was the last set I bought considering no one seems to like them in reviews. For the money I've found other brands just perform much better, but ymmv. Same goes for Michelin - great tires, but there are great tires for less money. After these Dunlops hit 4/32 or so they'll be replaced with something better as a touring tire. Tire Rack is a great source for reviews.

As for snow, if I lived where there were real seasons with snow, I'd just go with a set of winter and a separate set of summer tires and have better tires for the seasons - all seasons are always a compromise.

To the OP, whatever you get, remember the tires are the only part of the car that touches the road, so don't scrimp!

just got my car back..the swapped lid I got was from a v6, not the v8 I have, so i don't have the 4.6 thingee next to where it says Genesis. Not a big deal, I guess.

Practically every panel on our Genesis (including the trunk lid) has a VIN label attached. Did your dealer recover your original label?

Another reason why this sounds so strange to me. Taking a part, not just any part, but a trunk lid, from another car on the lot and putting it on my car. Interesting. I guess if the owner is satisfied, that's all that counts. In that case the dealer has done their part. Sounds sort of chop shopish to me.

I did mention I was from New Jersey, didn't I ? LOL.

You might as well take the Genesis off the car too - it looks great without the badging!

As for swapping trunk lids, I guess it was the faster alternative to having the part shipped from Korea?
