If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Genesis Owners. I'm Bill. From my first drive of my dad's 2013 Equus, I've been wanting to get back into this brand (which has since become known as Genesis). After the second MDX lease expired, it was time to get into the GV80. While the looks and ride of this vehicle is great, I am finding more and more shortcomings, relative to not only the MDX, but other previously owned vehicles as well. The first step was to manually download and install the Maps upgrade in order to get the wireless CarPlay to work. Moving forward, my mission is to get these people to coordinate user profiles to their "Smart Key" or Digital key. There is no reason why I can't walk up to the car and have it recognize my profile. Otherwise, happy with the car.

Welcome to the Genesis community. I am confused. You state that you are finding more and more shortcomings but you are happy with the car. What are these shortcomings other than wireless carplay and smart key coordination?

What do you like about the vehicle and what don't you like and how do those likes (and dislikes) factor into your acquisition strategy? For example, I had three primary requirements: small size, luxury accouterments, power). Once I had eliminated everything that didn't meet those requirements, then I went to second level desires and requirements such as a HUD, buttons/switches to control what I might want to adjust while operating the vehicle, didn't make me throw up to look at it (talking to you BMW), etc. In my case the GV60P is a unicorn in that it is the only vehicle that met my needs. What are your requirements and desires and how does the GV80 meet or fail to meet those requirements/desires?

Hi Steve,

Not sure why you are confused. I can be overall happy with the car despite its shortcomings. To be honest, I did not go into quite your level of analysis, at least consciously, in selecting this car. I did want the looks, ride, size and many of the luxury features this Prestige trim level has, so that is a big part about my overall satisfaction with the car.

About the CarPlay, the only disappointment with it is that the dealer did not install/update this before I took delivery so I had to do it. Once installed, it works fine.
The primary dislike is that the key fob and digital key do not pull up a user profile, so getting into the car after my wife drives it requires me to manually (memory 2) move the seat back so I can get in. This is something that I have been used to having for years. It was not apparent that the car did or did not do this, but have confirmed this is not a feature.

The car does not seem to have an automatic door locking feature that will lock the doors after I walk away. This is a problem since I'm used to just walking away and have the car lock itself.

I won't get into some of the other little things, such as the garage door buttons do not work after the car is shut off, or that the fan speed does not seem to modulate itself automatically (but again, I have not been in it enough to say if this is true or not).

Sadly, I am comparing features I've had in several other luxury brands that are not in this vehicle. Sure, I will be able to adapt, but with the level of tech in this car, there is no reasons these features are not available.

We only gone about 500 miles, most of which my wife put on it. Having said that, the car does ride nicely and the technology seems to work well.

Interestingly, some people's issues are features to others.

I always thought it was stupid that the garage door opener operated when my car was off. I never used to lock my car in my own driveway, so I knew I always gave people easy access to my garage.
In the case of the GV60 I now lock it because of the way the handles stick out, and I do not like leaving them open.

Hey Bruce,
I always had that thought as well, that the button was always active. Thankfully, never had a problem as I almost always park in the garage. The solution to that is to keep it powered on after the ignition is turned off, like the head unit, until the door opens. Again, we can adapt to press the garage door button before turning off the car, but just commenting on changes that, to me, were a feature not a problem. But I see your point.

Good luck with that one. I would like it too. Unfortunately, that's been a complaint from owners of all their models. There are lots of posts about that if you search. Unlike other brands (such as my 2007 Infiniti), FOBs don't control your Profile.

Unless they changed it for 2025, the lack of walk-away door locking is another issue for many other owners as well. I personally don't want the car to unlock and lock itself every time I walk by it in the garage, so I'm good with not having it..

Not sure how on the GV80, but there should be an AUTO setting for the fan. Turning that ON at a specified temperature should take care of your modulation issue.

They're beautiful vehicles, so congratulations. I hope you enjoy it for many years to come.

I think Genesis has gotten a little lazy in not tying the key fob to the driver. We had that in my wife's Lexus since 2007, and she complained about her G70 not having it. In truth, it was always a pain to set up and program for the Lexus.

The Ioniq Guy has a device that he says will enable walk-away locking. I am not sure I want the feature, so it is certainly not important enough to me to try to make a change, but this video says you can.

Thanks. A couple of thoughts. Can you get your spouse use to use the easy entry/easy exit feature? You would then be able to get into the car but it would still probably try to crush you when you turned on the vehicle. I don't know how quickly one could engage the profile settings and I completely agree with you that it would have made much more sense to tie it to the fob and digital key. Genesis seems to want to wait until you select the user through the sometimes working fingerprint system which rarely works for me and very rarely works for me on the first try. Maybe Genesis has a reason for this but I don't see it.

I think the fan speed is on purpose. One can have the AC on auto mode but still select one of three fan speeds. So if one has to cool one's car down quickly, one can have the fan speed on #3 but if one doesn't need that speed, and prefers a quieter interior from the start, one can still drive in auto mode but then select fan speed #2 or #1. Or...one can start off in #3 to quickly cool down the car and then drop it to #2 or #1. I find that the AC works so well in my GV60 that even in super hot Scottsdale I can usually drive in #1 after only a couple of minutes in a faster setting.

No car is perfect for everyone. There will be design choices and compromises that work for some and not others and a car is such a complex mechanism used in so many different ways and places that it would be too expensive to offer user options for all of them (many car magazine reviewers criticized BMW M cars for offering too many options for the driver to select). Not only would I have preferred that the GV60 came with ultraperformance summer tires (or at least a performance all season tire like the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season) but I would have preferred that some of the features that are customizable would be made sticky so that one would not need to choose them each time one got in the car. These would include: activating the automatic switching between brights and regular depending on traffic conditions; returning it to the selected driving style decision that one wants to make (whether, for example, that means one pedal driving or the opposite traditional driving use both pedals), driving in other than standard mode (I prefer "sport" mode and have made all the choices in "My" mode that would approximate sport mode but there are still some further adjustments). By the way, the reason that one can reasonably do the "traditional" driving style which is what I am using, is that the braking system on the GV60 is a "blended" braking system; the initial depression of the brake pedal invokes regen and only moves to friction braking if one depresses it very quickly or hard. Tesla, on the other hand, does not use a blended braking system so as soon as one steps on the brake pedal, one is invoking the friction brakes, not regen. Therefore, if one is driving a Tesla, it makes sense to learn to drive one pedal style so as to generate regen on slowing down.

Yesterday i learned another (badf) quirk on my GV60P. I was going to meet my family at a weird location near the currently empty river. The nav took me to a dead end in the middle of nowhere but reasonably close to my desired end point if I were driving a crow. I finally dug into carplay and used google maps to find the way there. Google maps worked. I guess I am going to have to spend some time learning how to use carplay. I am working from my faulty memory now but I believe that carplay still threw my directions onto the HUD.

Anyway, you are correct. The GV60 lacks some features that exist on other luxury cars and the reverse is true as well. Hopefully, as your spouse gets used to the GV60 and its features, or lack thereof, she (and you) will determine that it was a wise choice for your needs. It was, and is, for me.

Interesting video. Wonder if this works for the gas vehicles

Boy am I late to this party - but - welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I'm glad you found us. And I'm highly confident you'll get used to everything quickly enough. Hyundai and Genesis have come a long way since the Equus. And, yes, there are still improvements to be made...

Looking for instructions on how to sync my garage door opener with my 2025 GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige. Didn’t see it in the 775 page (!) manual.

Hi Sal, Better late than never... Well, 1,700 miles in and have worked through much of the learning curve.. Given the cold spell, it took a while to find the steering wheel heater button that we wanted to use last night. Hopefully Genesis reads this forum and will take into consideration user feedback on what works and what could use some tweaking or updating, like perhaps a smarter smart key :-)

Glad to hear you're getting comfortable with the new stuff! There's so much technology in these vehicles that it's difficult to keep up. I don't live up north anymore, but really could have used a heated steering wheel on so many occasions... Yes, representatives do come here for feedback to help steer them in the right direction to keep their customers happy. There are discussions going for each model specifically for this reason. :)

Thanks Sal. Well, if Genesis is reading this, since there is no way for the car to know who is getting in before turning on the key, I would like to know the best way to address getting in the car after my short wife so that the seat does not move forward and crush me until I can select myself as the driver so it moves back. Best would have an actual smart key that is coded to profile 1 or profile 2. I would also love it if temporary power was supplied to the garage buttons like it is for the radio after the car is turned off .

That IS silly how that happens... I also see you posted about it in the appropriate discussion:
