  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Last night after much discussion with the Mrs., I finally decided to say goodbye to our 2015 AWD. Decided to get something that sips gas yet has nice amenities as well as a ton more safety feature. We got a new Hyundai Elantra and so far we are really liking it.

Had the Genesis held up better, it would probably still be in the garage but it was just getting long in the tooth and was time to part ways.

Thanks to all here for the tips/tricks/help you offered during my ownership.

You had a good run with it. Enjoy the new car. Good choice.

Well ... bye.

Sad to read - but understandable. That being said - it IS 10 years old... and probably has loads of miles on it to boot. How many other cars can you say you have had in your lifetime for this long - especially at this level/class of car? Noting you kept it in the family and essentially stepped down to a de-badged G80 with a few less niceties while also stepping forward 10 years in technology and improvements - that does say a lot. You likely got pretty darn close to your G80 again in your current choice. That's how I feel anyhow with the new Palisade Calligraphy I picked up last week. :)

I've had several cars hold up much better even though they were near the decade mark.

The car had 64,100 miles on odometer but the replaced engine had an estimated 61,000. I would also expect something like the pano roof to not die right after 36,000 miles yet no be covered under a warranty. Same with bumper paint that started peeling well under 50,000 miles.

No idea what your G80 rambling notes are about, LOL

Interesting - you had much lower miles than I was expecting - and about half of what I had on mine when I traded it in 3 years ago :o

With that in mind - were you already over the 5 year mark when you hit 36k & had the roof issue? If so - that's why that would have been denied. If not - then I would have fought that, even getting a lawyer involved if necessary.

Which engine did you have? Very surprised you had an engine replacement as both the 3.8 and 5.0 are very solid and not usually problematic. I will have to go find that thread - I am genuinely curious.

As for bumper paint - were you garaged or outdoor parked? The only time mine spent time indoors is when it was at the shop. While annoying - you having that issue isn't completely surprising. Both front and rear covers are plastic and they clearly had a bonding issue back then. Hopefully Hyundai has fixed that in general so you don't experience the same issue with your new ride, and me with the Palisade.

My "rambling notes" were basically pointing out there were likely similarities in the car you had vs. the car you have now. Some of the features, comfort and other nice things from our DH series have made their way into recent & current generations of the Hyundai lineup. I know you said you got an Elantra - but for some reason when I was writing that my brain thought Sonata - which of course shares a fair amount with the G80 (and more than the Elantra does). Apologies for that. :)
