  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got in the car Saturday just after lunch and noticed the finish is coming off the steering wheel. At about the 1230 or 1 o'clock position there is a patch about 1/2" wide by 2" long that is discolored and the pebble grain finish is gone. Its a little rough/ragged around the edges, too.

I guess I'll call the dealer today from work and see what they say about bringing it in.

My hands spend most of the time down on the bottom half of the steering wheel so I don't know why the top is damaged/wearing out early. Its garaged whenever its not on the road or at work. At work I park it in the shade (except for one day earlier this year) which means I have to wipe/wash the bird crap off almost every day when I get home, but at least the car isn't baking in the sun all day.

My IROC Z28 is 26 years old and the steering wheel hasn't done this.

Mine did this after about 3 months on the top of the wheel, almost like it is coated with a very thin plastic. Dealership did nothing, was told they would notify region rep about it but no warranty repair was authorized. It has continued to peel and is now about 4 inches across the top.

Called the dealership (Gateway Hyundai in Colonial Heights, VA) and they told me to bring it in

The guy behind the service desk walked out, took a look at it, we went back inside and he did some paperwork/computer work and came back with a piece of paper. He told me the "part" was on order and when it came in they'd call me to set up an appointment.

I hope the replacement goes this smoothly.

Had a message Monday that the new part was in at the dealership. Set up an appt. for yesterday. Dropped it off at 0815 in the morning. They called around 1000 AM to tell me it was ready to pick up.

Went down and got it. The finish on the new wheel is not as shiny as the original but I don't mind. I meant to check out the cruise control buttons (all the other ones worked) but just never got around to it.

They also did an inspection of the tires, brakes, fluids, etc. while the car was there for no charge. Everything looked good.
