  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So yesterday I drove about 20 miles to grab some new filters for house HVAC system. Started the car and check engine light was on, mileage 185,683. I drove 3 miles to our daughter's house to pick up granddaughter for her weekly overnight visit. Started the car and drove straight home, about 17 miles. The car was running as normal as it has since new. Took her back home this morning and started weekend errands with 3 engine shutoffs. The CEL came on 2 times but extinguished at mileage 185,745 during the 3rd startup. No rain or any other issues. Has anyone ever experienced this? BTW: I do own an OBD-II test rig and would have checked it but our 32 month old "Ball of fire" doesn't like distractions.

Hi Ed. I had filled up on 09/29/2022 with no adjustments to the fuel cap. Good thought though. Thanks. Jeff

Some CELs will self-clear if the fault is intermittent and does not recur. Don't worry, if it fails completely you'll get a CEL that will stay on.

Thank you. Will keep an eye on it.

The fuel thing is most often the case for those intermittent CEL and is a big reason I stopped filling at cheaper gas stations. Also, when a gas station is getting refilled by a tanker I dont get gas as that stirs up sediments and I've had major issues (CEL, car stalled, engine had to be cleaned etc) with my Honda Oddy during such even as a Wawa.

You could also try running a good-quality fuel system cleaner for a tank of fuel. Berryman B12, Sea Foam, Techron, etc. The best one I've found is called 44K by BG Products. It's probably the most expensive, but it's also (one of) the best, in my opinion.

I had the CEL come on in my BMW soon after I bought it, years ago. When I pulled codes, there were all kinds of warning indicators blinking on the scan tool, although I don't remember the exact codes, and there weren't as many codes as there were warning indicators (potential causes for the codes). I changed the fuel filter (that car has one outside the tank, not sure about the Genesis) and ran a can of 44K for a tankful of fuel, no problems since then. Your mileage may vary.

I only purchase fuel from BP and normally 2 other stations and never while they servicing the underground tanks. I add Lucas Fuel treatment once a month. Drove a 125 mile round trip today with 4 engine starts and no issues.

Will check these items out, thank you for the tip.

I think Lucas makes good products, but the 44K is likely more potent.
