  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had my genesis V8 with tech for 3 months and 4,000 trouble free miles. Two days ago the controller ( the round selector knob) on the console has stopped working. I can turn it in either direction but it does not change the cursor in any of the screens or the the range in map mode. I can push it to select things but I can't change what is selected. I was hoping that restarting the car would fix it but it did not. I will be taking it to the dealer Monday unless someone has a clever way of resetting it.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I had the exact same thing happen to mine. Just bring it in to any Hyundai dealership service center and they'll order you a new one from Korea. It'll be a 1-2 month wait. It was for me anyway. I'm not sure if the new ones are "fixed" or just the same part. Just don't spin it too fast and you should be ok.

thanks I will see what the dealer says next week.

You may try and unplug the postive terminal on the battery. This will of course erase all your settings and presets. But the dealer is going to do this anyway.

1-2 months? With most of the car's functionality not working? I would have tried to force an exchange under the state's lemon law.

Oh I know, it is completely ridiculous to have to wait that long. The item controls so much of the entertainment system. Hyundai really should have inventory here in the US but to my knowledge items like that come directly from Korea and they are back ordered so that says something about that part. Hopefully they have addressed the problem and the replacements do not have the flaw that mine had.

"coming from Korea' is not much of a problem. Shouldn't take more than 3-5 days or so. That they don't have inventory is a problem, probably an indicator of the size of the problem. When there is an inventory level problem, suppliers get pushed for production which often has a negative impact on quality. That can compound the problem.

The issues is that the problem has apparently occurred on a new 2010. That implies the problem is not solved and is current.

I just tried pulling the positive cable and the other wire from the battery no help with my problem, but thanks

This issue finally bit me.

My Genny's just over a year old and has 13K+ miles. Today the controller knob went tits-up when rotating it to change map scales. It still works fine when pushing it down or bumping it. Power cycles did not bring it back, so it's probably gone. Looks lilke I'm off to the dealer tomorrow for a visit.

Hopefully the wait for the part is not too long. The rotation mode controls so many important features. Fortunately a few of them can be backed up with the up/down arrow on the steering wheel.

Stay calm and find out what the real problem is and how long it will actually take to replace it.

Lemon law requires the following in most states; three trips to the dealer, the dealer cannot fix the problem - thus this would not qualify. Plus lemon law would take more than 1-2 months in most cases to get processed.

Took mine to the shop yesterday. Tech rep confirmed that knob doesn't work when you rotate it (no duh?). Part is on order and supposed to arrive Monday or Tuesday (no 1-2 month wait like previously noted). I'll advise if they have lied to me.

In at least two states, Lemon Law protections accrue with either more than 3 trips or more than a specified number of days out of service. It is likely that a 1-2 month part delay would violate Lemon Law protections. Based on my personal experience, it is unlikely that a consumer would get relief from Hyundai under that circumstance.

I like my Genesis but what may keep me from ever considering another future Hyundai purchase is the service issues that can't be fixed in a reasonable length of time. 100,000 mile warranty doesn't mean much if Hyundai can't supply parts needed to fix the car.

The supply & distribution of needed parts is something Hyundai is going to have to solve if it expects its dealers to make repeat future sales.

I waited 5 weeks for a steering column replacement:mad:

My vehicle with 3500 miles is now free of any known issues and I am enjoying driving it. I hope it stays that way cause I really do like this car.
HYUNDAI PLEASE DON'T DISAPPOINT!
