  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well I just completed my first road trip in my Genesis, took it from the San Fernando Valley to Palm Springs and back, with a little local driving while there. I was totally blown away with the car, from how comfortable it was to how efficient it was.

The only other car I've owned is a 2005 Corolla that I (now) use primarily for work. I drive a lot to and from and during work and found myself getting fed up with the Corolla and it's lack of creature comforts, as well as having to clear out all my work tools & accessories just to have room to take groceries home. Want to take the car out for the evening? Forget it. It gets so dirty at work that I found myself needing (but neglecting) to clean it weekly, inside and out! The car is also much to small for a large guy like myself, so I decided to upgrade.

Now that the background's done, the compliments: The gas mileage on this thing is amazing. My Corolla gets around 30 mpg average with mostly city driving and average AC use. This baby got me an average mpg of 33.2, with the AC blasting the whole time, and in the hot SoCal heat! That alone is just so amazing to me. The car is incredibly comfortable to drive and be a passenger in. Plenty of legroom for me and I didn't have any back or leg discomfort (which usually happens) due to my nicely adjusted driver's seat! The AC works like a champ; it gets cold fast and cools car down in a flash. Plenty of trunk space, too. Well, I'm sure most of you already know all these facts.

My question is about the ESC. I've never driven a car with a good suspension...But I've noticed that the ride in the Genesis feels a bit...funny at times--very "bouncy" like, especially at high speeds on the freeway. When going over the slight bumps and lumps in the road, the car seems to bounce quite a bit, and it seems to me that the steering wheel is shaking somewhat and pulling the car to the right, perhaps. As an experiment I turned off ESC and the ride seemed to change to something I'm more used to. I'm wondering what kind of ride to expect from this great car, and if this "drifting" feeling is normal, and/or if it's caused by ESC?

Oh, and I didn't see any other sedans...But I did see a few coupes!

My mother in law calls the ride "bouyant". It's a weakness of the Genesis sedans of all types. The good news is that you'll get used to it and learn to manage the cars shortcomings.

For some reason the hardest aspect of a car for manufacturers to master is the ride/handling.

In this order best to worse (imo and by reviews):

Germans
Japanese (with Americans coming fast or already #2)
Koreans

Having driven Infinity M, Lexus I series, and Acura TL, the Genesis is a dissappointment in that department but far superior in others.
