  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fog light and Lexicon question

Turn the surround on - drop the midrange a hair, boost the treb and bass a bit and turn it up....
"Old people" settings (preferred by me) lol

Bass is stronger with Surround sound off, and frankly surround sound serves no purpose for music only for movies.

Music is not recorded in 5.1 or 7.1 sound it is recorded in 2.1 (2 channel stereo + bass) so forcing it into 5.1 or 7.1 surround makes it sound like crap.

Some music/artists have tried conversions to DTS or Digital 5.1 over the years, but the original recordings were in stereo, so the conversion is not a true representation of the original sound. "CD's" cannot handle the data compression for 5.1 or 7.1 there is not enough space on a CD, and I for one have never seen Music only on DVDs, only Music videos, live concerts, etc. that contain a video or movie format.

That's about what I do for mine....!

I'm pretty sure the "surround" in the car has no kind of "5.1" etc processing and that it's more of a spatial processing - and to me it makes the stereo sound better.

This system is just lacking bass. Overall, very satisfied.
That was the only fault with my 2015 Ultimate, so I had to make it a true Ultimate, by adding an amp for the factory sub, now even the dealer cant believe the difference, they say the system sound better than even a 2019 G90 system (actually did a comparison test). Had to have my deep bass, I listen to a lot of reggae, and reggae without good bass is like pizza made without NY water.

I was going to add a different speaker. However, if I can on;y add an amp, that'd be great. What amp did you use and who installed it for you?

I too am super disappointed in the Lexicon system. My wife's 2019 Santa Fe and my son's 2018 Subaru Legacy blow this system out of the water. This is very depressing for me personally because I am musician, played in a band for twelve-years and obvious am an audiophile. I thought maybe it was me.

As a dj and a electronic enthusiasts since 1977, I like quality music, highs, mids bass and sub bass, I added a Kicker CXA3001, CX Series Class D Mono Subwoofer Amplifier, all I did was cut the subwoofer output from the factory amp, and connected it to the kicker low input, and the subwofer wires to the output of the kicker amp, tap into the oem amp cable harness for power, adjust the kicker amp gain and bass crossover frequency and your good to go. everything was done in the trunk.it took me approx 2 hours and cost under $100. I think I could get away with a 100w amp, before the amp I had to turn the bass on the radio to +10, with the kicker amp, now my bass is set to -4.

I did this in Dec. 2018 and its still going great, although a few friends thought I would blow the subwoofer. The oem sub really sounds great with the amplifier boost. I came up with the idea, because I wanted to do the least modification to the car.

HAHAHA you hit the nail on the head with the NY pizza reference.

This is interesting to say the least. I was about to build a sealed enclosure for a JL 12" I have laying around. I listen to mostly classic rock but just about anything sounds better with a little added bass. I'll try it your way first and see how it sounds. Thanks for the tip bro

Hi! I will be attempting to do this mod. With the new amp, the power wire that goes from the new amp to the old amp, does it need any fuses or resistors? Can I instead plug it in directly to the battery? (Sorry for the dumb question but I am newbie to audio modifications. However, I do really good cutting, splicing and tapping into cables :) ). Would you be able to take a quick picture of your amp setup, please? Thanks!

No fuse or resistor is needed, fuse is optional, (I did not use any). I tap connect the power wire to the factory amp harness power, (you can connect it directly to the battery if you want). the remote turn on wire goes to the aux lead on the factory amp harness, (the 2nd amp will turn off by the ignition switch), (please note the kicker amp also have a dc offset remote turn on feature that sense the the signal on the input, this might work, I did not test that feature). Remember to set the the input level switch to high and adjust the gain control as needed. Good luck.

Awesome. Thanks for quick response. I will be buying Kicker CX 400W Class D Digital Mono Amplifier with Variable Low-Pass Crossover. I will plug it into the battery. As far as remote wire goes, can you tell me which connector and which pin number from the following picture it is, please?

You are the best. Thank you! I will try to create a manual with pictures if everything works out perfectly.

There are two connectors attached to the amp, one white, one gray.
On the white connector, the pink wire is the remote turn on wire that turns the amp on/off. You can use this wire to turn your new subwoofer amp on and off.
On the gray connector, the blue wire and the gray-with-black-stripe wire are the leads for the factory subwoofer. I hope you have the same colors.

The schematic you posted above is for the non Ultimate model. Here's the Lexicon/AV schems. Note: they say JBL for some reason.

Thanks for the correction

Got it. Thanks! The last question I have is for converting the oem amplifier output wires going to the sub speaker. There are two wires connecting to the speaker that will now connect to the new amp through RCA and then sub speaker. How do I convert them to RCA? I only have 2 wires coming out from oem amp and they need to be converted into 4 (red and white RCA that will connect to the new amp):

Just connect both RCA to you single sub ouput, , from your RCAs, both red & white to + sub, and both RCA ground to - sub. Once you cut the sub wire, the amp side goes to your RCAs, and the speaker side goes to your new amp ouput. Be aware your amp have a lot of power for the factory sub.
