If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

free car washes

Many of us have no realistic choice but automatic washes in the winter! I'd rather get the salt off than worry about minor swirl marks.

For winter, the pull in and stop, high pressure, no touch washes work well (except for the wax stripping soap used by many). That can get rid of the salt and not ruin the paint. Winter is the worse time for fully auto car washes - some of that salt from the previous car is on those brushes or rags and it's then dragged or ground into your paint. I would drive a few minutes further for a touch-less wash on a $45K+ investment.

Then before winter, just need to prepare car for it.
Clean and wash it down to make it surgically clean , like clay or the speedy prep towel, do some scratch removal and compound ,apply polisher/ cleansing , and put a coating on, can put even two layers of coating, after the first cures in 12 hours can put another layer , it will protect your paint from scratches and swirl marks until summer. If put on properly the minimum guarantee is at least a year, depends of what product has been used.

I would also recommend Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine for those with winter car washing blues or those in apartments with no access to a hose. It is a safe no rinse product that allows you to clean the car in the garage with a pail of water. I would maybe not use it on a salt encrusted car, but as a follow up after a brushless wash in the winter, it can make a huge difference and is pretty easy and mess free.

Completely agree , also the autogeek.net it's where I am getting my products from. It's not just regular online store, the owners of it are professional detailers with huge experience ,and test every product themselves before put it on sale. Also every product is well described and you could learn proper ways how to use it. They knowledgable friendly staff will always respond to your questions ,also they got forum under the same name, and I enjoyed few months ago, and gain a lot info and find out about products and things , what's needed to do to your car to keep it nice and shiny and protected, that I never knew about it, and now I am thinking how could I cleaned it the way I did . I just used to wash it good and put some wax once in a 3-4 months, but never knew that there is another level what needs to be done and it's good to know about it.

None of these within any reasonable distance for me.

Took my 2015 genesis in for first oil change. Found out two facts. One/ synthetic oil is what comes from the factory and it takes 7 guarts. Two genesis and equis owners get free car wash and interior cleaning at any time not just when bringing in for service. Is this just my dealership or across the board. Loving the car.

First couple of times I took my 2011 Sedan in for oil changes, they washed the car and did a good job (I used to detail cars in my very younger days). They have stopped doing that, and they cost about 20% more for an oil change than a lube and wash place that is closer and gives a free wash with every oil change. I'm planning to get the cheaper oil changes with the wash in the future. Another complaint is the dealer every time tries to up-sale me on work I don't need for my warranty and is over priced.

I do miss washing my own car, but the Texas Hill Country has been on water conservation for the last 4 years and car washes are consider a no-no. Last time I tried I got so many bad looks from all my Prius driving neighbors that I decided to just have it washed by the car washes after that.

I just had my first oil change and was warned that if I chose to synthetic (I did), that I'd have to stick with synthetic oil for all future oil changes, making them much more expensive. So, if it came from the factory with synthetic on board, I would think you wouldn't have a choice - you'd have to continue to use it...

Anyone who says that is a complete idiot, and should be reported as an idiot.
Cars with high mileage can often start to leak oil if you start with synthetic after 100,000 miles, but not always....My old Elantra is an exception. With synthetic, it can go 5000 without using any oil.

I live in Canada and winter comes with the territory. If you want to remove the salt, use a touch less car wash. Car washes with the moving tracks and brushes leave more than just minor swirl marks. Damaged wheels, all those cars before yours now have their dirt and salt embedded in those machines brushes and machines. Run through that a couple of times a month then have a detailer show you the damage. Its quite surprising.

However, not everyone has the same view on how they maintain the exterior/interior of their vehicle. One owner will freak out spending 10 dollars on a car wash while others would easily spend $300 for a winter prep detail.

Had my first car wash. It sucked! Had to take the car back in. Free should not be sloppy! Now I wonder what the first oil change will be like.
