  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Free Map Update

Took my '12 4.6 in today. After a 2.5 hour wait, the service adviser came out and advised me the download process had "crashed" the car's computer and I would require a new head unit.

Installing a new NAV map will not cause the head unit to "crash". I'm thinking they did something else that damaged it. The normal process is to put the car on some sort of charger (because the ignition system needs to be energized while doing the update) then load the DVD's (there are three of them at last count). If the load "crashes" during load they have to restart it but I think it can restart from the last DVD and not the first one.

They may have done something to damage the DVD player which is how the new maps are loaded.

Very poor design. The "car's computer (ECU)" has no relation to the head unit.

I just had my 2012 serviced and they did the map update. How can I tell it was done?.. looks the same as before.

I used to own a 2012 3.8 premium/tech. I got my postcard recently. Service campaign P17 is what to ask the dealer about if you want to see if your car qualifies for the free upgrade.

Unfortunately I traded my 2012G for a 2015G. Wish I could give this postcard to someone here that didn't receive one.

There is a process to find the map ID by using the nav system. See page 272 of the DIS manual. It will have a version identifier which can then be traced back to the map supplier to verify which version you have.

Map supplier is MNSOFT http://www.mapnsoft.com/ You can contact them to find current map version then compare to the one in your NAV.

Version numbers look something like this: 03.00.00 2012.04.14.00 where the last four fields are year, month, day and version.

Wow, thanks for that info...I'll check now.

:)

Got my 2012 back with new head unit. Checked and it's the 2014 version.

All seems the same except under the "INFO/PHONE" display, I now have "Vehicle Height" and "Sport Mode." I don't recall see those before.

btw these modes don't do anything when the wheel is turned.

The only thing that's back is the occasional "brain dead mode" where the entire audio goes out for no apparent reason. I thought I was through with that!

The height and sport mode settings have always been there but, by default, you don't see them. You have the ability to go into the head unit settings and change it back to the view you always had.

To change those settings back to what you originally got in your old Head Unit, go to the Full ENG menu, navigate to: "Variant -> System Variant Settings". Then, you disable "ECS Height", "ECS Suspension" and enable "Steering Easy Ac." and "Seat Easy Access".

I received this update card in October. I have an R-Spec 2012. When I took the car in during oil consumption check, they tried the update. The tech told me the system crashed midway during load. They called tech support and were told it needed a new head unit. They ordered and in November they installed the head unit and were supposed to do the map update. I got a call 2 weeks later saying they forgot to do the map update. Took it back and the update crashed again. Went home without a map update and waiting to hear what next.

I don't think I will ever buy another Hyundai again.

What a whine! Like other car brands have no problems? Stuff happens. My update crashed too and I got another head unit. Works fine now. Hang in there and get it finished. Ask the service manager to give you something for your extra trouble, like a free oil change, etc. Don't forget that you are getting a free Nav update which normally costs more than $200.
