  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As a 2010 owner, I'm, curious as to how the HP was increased from 295 to 333 on the 2013? Was it done with computer magic, or hardware changes? A new Company has opened nearby that sells a" X3 plug in programmer by SCT" they claim can do wonders for performance, walk on water , leap buildings etc. and I'm wondering if I should entrust them to instal this and see what it can do. THey do have a dynamometer for testing. Also wondering about the warranty?

2012 has 333hp as well. Direct injection engine.

If there is an engine problem, Hyundai would probably try and deny a warranty claim if any non-OEM (or equivalent spec) parts are installed. Obviously, the parts you are talking about are not OEM spec, or else they would not help increase HP (but I don't know if they actually do). Technically, Hyundai would have to prove that the after-market parts caused the problem diagnosed in a warranty claim, but that might require expensive legal action on your part, and it might in fact be the case that the after-market part did contribute to the problem.

As mentioned above, Direct Injection is what increased HP from 295 to 333 on V6. Based on various complaints I have seen on this forum about the Hyundai V6 and V8 DI (increased soot on exhaust, noisy engine, injectors getting clogged, fuel dilution in oil, etc) I am happy to stay with the older 295 HP V6, which I find to be more than adequate in terms of power.

I don't recall seeing anything about clogged injectors, or fuel in the oil in this form. As far as soot from the exhaust, the problem is that the pipes go through the rear bumper, rather than under it. As a result, the rear bumper collects more soot.

This.

I have a 2013 3.8 w/tech pkg having traded in a 2009 with prem pkg only. The new one really has considerable more pickup from a stand still and also passing on two lane highways. I also have gotten 29.2 and 28.0 on two trips of about 190 + miles. Getting on ramps is sweet to say the least. I put the wings (again) on this pearl white Bentley....I mean Genesis :-).

I a lot of comments and looks.....luv it !

Sorry you don't recall about the injectors, but I do. Probably not many have complained about fuel dilution on this forum (even though it happens to them), but it is a known byproduct of all DI engines. Although lately, at least one of the mods seems to be deleting posts that are reveal negative things about the Genesis.

I disagree about the soot. Even accounting for the integrated exhaust/bumper, there is more soot from DI. Not a big problem, except for those with white cars.

I am not sure about the 2013's as one would expect Hyundai to make improvements in DI over time and address these issues.

Regardless, I'm running 7,500 mile oil changes with M1 EP, like a boss. :D

Wise choice. Full Synthetic is highly recommended for DI engines from any manufacturer.

I'm still not too convinced that even a true synthetic can protect against dilution though.

While we likely won't be seeing any major changes on the Tau when it comes to the 2G Genesis (any major change probably won't come until the MCE when we might see a twin-turbo Tau powerplant), Hyundai increased the 5.0 Tau's HP otuput for the new armored (Korean) Presidential limo by heavily modifying the intake and exhaust system on the Equus limo.

So we probably will see some boost in HP at least for the Tau.
