  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Last month, I got a new 2014 BMW 335i sedan, and sold my 2011 Genesis 4.6. I'd like to share my experiences.

My Genesis had 53,000 miles, in good condition, but had a few small dents.
Carmax offered 15,000.
BMW dealer offered 15,500.
Hyundai dealer offered 16,800, and I sold it to them.
When I bought it in 2011, I paid 35,000.

The BMW had MSRP 49,500, and I paid 42,200.
The reason for downsizing is that I wanted a smaller, sportier ride, so I got the BMW with the sport suspension.

This car is exactly what I needed!
It has a nice firm ride, handles well and, surprisingly, absorbs bumps a bit better than the Genesis did.

On the freeway, the BMW had more wind and road noise than the Genesis, but it was not objectionable.
There is also more prominent engine noise but of the pleasant type, in line with the sporting character of the car.

If I had been in the market for another mid size luxury car, I would have gone with the 2015 Genesis without a doubt, but I just wanted a change.

Congrats! Enjoy your new ride.

If I ever get back to bimmers, I'll get E90 335i 6speed....I'm kinda miss driving a stick shift since I sold my 540i.

I hope you enjoy German engineering as much as I did for over 12 years! :)

great community there, lots of info if you need http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/forum.php

Oh, yes, I love stick shifts too, but my wife hates them.
I can never shift as smoothly as the ZF 8 speed!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Did you get an extended warranty?...BMW's can get expensive after the warranty runs out. (unless you plan to only keep it for 3-4 years)

Is it as fast as the old genesis?

I'm pretty sure its electronically locked at 155mph. But its much easier to find a shop/tuner and get rid of it.
IIRC, I paid ~$600 for a Dinan chip for my 540i, back in 2001. I was capable of doing 165+ ;)

i think acceleration 0-60 is around 4.7 sec per car mags, which is faster than the genesis 4.6.
i haven't floored the gas much as it's in the break in period.

i will get rid of it in exactly 36 months, per lease contract :D
at that time, if Tesla brings out their model 3, i might get that.

^ Nice change.

By then, Hyundai should have its new compact sport sedan out (as well as the new lux coupe) and Kia, the GT (a midsizer, but smaller than the 2G Genesis and sportier).

The Kia GT might be my Genesis replacement in the future - Looking forward to the car!

On second thought, I might go with an F30 335i M sport. Those things are even faster than Rspec! 0-60 in 4.6 sec.!

(I already started thinking about it out loud, and my wife gave me that look .....but she didn't say nothing) :D

The max Torque at 1000 RPM is very tempting :)
It's missing some luxury I've gotten accustomed to though.

First, I'll need to test drive one with manual trans. and then with 8 speed auto.

My indy, who works as a master tech for the bmw said, its not going to be easy to find a stick shift, those are rare. he also said that those new auto tranny are very good.

Im taking 2 weeks off, starting saturday....I'll be spending some time, doing some resarch before and after Christmas :D

@Danny
I'm not really sure if even fancy dinner will do any good :D .....I'm starting with Versace - nice Christmas present ...and she better like it. ;)

@geops
I don't care about all those nice futures that Genesis has, I don't use half of them ;)

Congrats! I also recently switched from a Genesis to a BMW this summer but except mine is a BMW 4 series. No regrets so far, maybe when it's time to trade in this car I will look into the new Equus or refreshed Genesis.
They still have things to work on in regards to quality of the dealerships. Hopefully in another 3-4 years they would have improved by then.

I went to one yesterday to collect my remaining Gap insurance money I had with the Genesis and they left me waiting over an hour just to write me the check. Claiming they were with other customers, etc. And they were acting like little kids in the financial office, quite shocking.

They have a lot of work to do still.

In my ideal world, I would never have to visit the Dealership at all ! - Both of my Genesis have been so reliable that this is almost reality! -- I went for the 2 free oil changes and that's it.

When you're spending a lot of time at the dealership, it is not a good sign. I spent way too much time at the Lexus dealership with my 2007 GS350! - Nice dealership, but I don't want to be there in the First place!

I looked at the 335i M Sport long and hard but it's too tiny for me. I'm 6'5" and barely fit comfortably in the Genny with the seat all the way back. In a few years when I should upgrade my r-spec, I will probably look at the Jaguar XF 5.0 Supercharged. It's large, has even more luxury, rides comfortably and still has that awesome V8 grunt with 470 bhp plus max torque from 2000 rpm. The other option might be the Caddy CTS-V Sedan, which is coming back in 2016 but right now the materials in the 2014 cabin are pretty bad for an expensive luxury car. Hopefully they'll fix that in the 2016 model.

I checked, and I have found only one 335i m sport around Chicago. It's going to be hard to find the specific one.

Wife said that I am picky as hell. :D

At those prices you're entitled to be picky
