If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I noticed on my newly purchased G70 that there is a fairly large gap where both the headlights are. Gap is large enough where I can see some plastic tabs/brackets of some sort. Anyone else showing the same?

I assume the gap is because of heat --> the plastic expands. I have seen brand new G70s with similar bumper gaps

One way to tell if you don't get a definitive answer here it to take a ride by the dealer and check other cars on the lot.

For sure..That was my next step. Thanks!

So far, been loving it. Only have less than 200 miles. Waiting for the 600 mile mark so I can try the launch control. 😃

Figured out the gap. It appears that Genesis used some type of adhesive between the bumper and the bumper support assembly. I peaked in the big gap my loaner has and can see the adhesive.

In the attached picture, circled in red, is the support assembly that attaches underneath the top of the bumper. This support assembly is then attached to the front of the frame. Where I circled in yellow is the area where the adhesive is that has come loose between the bumper and the support assembly. Looks like Genesis didn't do enough testing on the strength of the adhesive to withstand the heat.

If you push down on the bumper right above your headlights and if your bumper shows a lot of movement, then the adhesive has come loose. Most people may not realize there is an issue and think this is part of the design, it is not.

I think if more people bring up this issue to their dealer and or Genesis USA/Canada, maybe they will come out with a TSB for it.

I will be letting my dealer know of my findings as well as Genesis USA.

I will almost guarantee you with 99% confidence that the front bumper cover and the upper support are not glued together. I worked for body shops for last 35 years and insurance company currently. I have never seen a bumper cover glued it to the support bracket when the support bracket is available separately. Mercedes-Benz has a support that’s glued to the bumper but it’s sold as part of the bumper cover not available separately not even shown in the diagram is separately.

I looked at mine ad it has a maybe 1/32nd gap difference from center to outer above headlamp.

My guess is just the bumper cover it self has a slight deformation on some cars. Either case manufacture wound need to address.

By the way my production date is April 2019.

Oh yeah, your car is new. Some of the cars on the lots were built all the way back in May 2018. Let me tell you, the gap is huge!

The whole thing isn't glued. Just the areas that I marked in the picture. Plus, don't think it's glue, more like a double sided tape adhesive.

The support assembly is screwed to the bumper. Give it time, yours may start pulling apart.

I've already talked to the GM and Service Mgr about it.

Update:

Was in contact with Genesis motors USA a few days ago and spoke to a very professional associate regarding the gap between the top of the headlights and bumper. Advised that I just wanted them to be aware of the issue so they can let whomever know that there is an issue. He said he would talk to the engineers and follow up in a couple days.

Today he called me back and said that Genesis is aware of the issue with the glue/adhesive. He also mentioned that if I wanted to, I could take my car to any body shop to have them fix the gap and Genesis would reimburse me for the repairs. I told him I would just wait for Genesis to come out with a repair, however if I changed my mind I would let him know.

I also mentioned to him about the sunroof noises and if they were aware. He said they were but since the noises weren't isolated to any one area, to go to the dealership to have them take a look as they are their eyes and ears.

So if any of you are having issues with your car, contact Genesis motors USA or Canada to at least let them know, even if they don't have a fix right now.

*Update*

I didn't mention this previously as I wasn't sure how much truth there was to it. The last time I spoke to Genesis motors USA regarding the issue of the bumper, the rep I spoke with advised me that, due to the inconvenience and for me bringing up the issue to them, he wanted to pay one months car payment for me. Of course I didn't refuse the offer and sure enough, after providing the requested paperwork, I received a check in the mail a few weeks later. 😁😁

Disclaimer - I can't say anyone will receive the same results.

whoa very nice!

Just dropped my car off and brought up the gap, definitely not present on new cars on the lot. My SA said there was not glue in there and took me through how it’s constructed. He said only fix would be a new bumper, but he’s going to call genesis and see what they want to do about it

Update: SA did say there was a big enough gap there to be considered a defect. Offered to replace the bumper, but it would be unpainted and a body shop would have to color match. Told me what I already know, that color matching could produce less than perfect results. He said I can think on it and we can make a decision on my next usual appointment

Huh... You'd think they'd be able to send over a painted one from the factory. Guess not. Would they cover the body shop cost as well? I bet they could get a good match.

I’m assuming they would pay for the body shop as well. I’m not sure if I want to do it...it would be nice to get rid of all the rock marks I’ve accumulated but if the color is even a little off that will bother me more than anything else, even leaving it as is

Not going against what you're saying but moreso the SA, there's definitely some glue/adhesive in certain areas which I mentioned in my earlier posts, I saw it myself.

And no, the whole support assembly is not glued but appears to be riveted to the bumper. I've already tried fixing it with some 3m double sided tape and the results came out real good until the heat got to it and it pulled apart. Maybe one of these days I'll pull my bumper off and apply some heat resistant glue/adhesive.

Appreciate the update though!

There could be some sort of adhesive but peeking in with a flashlight I can’t see any on mine. I’m curious though; your dealership offered to have a body shop fix yours which seems less involved than ordering a new bumper. I’d be down for that kind of fix and I imagine it would be cheaper for Genesis so wonder if I can offer an alternate solution to my dealership

I don't see why that would be issue since it would most likely cost less. Would much rather have a factory painted bumper too. Btw, I did go directly through Genesis corporate and not the dealership. Contacted them via messenger on their Facebook page and surprisingly they responded and had someone from corporate contact me. Had a pretty good experience.

Thanks for this thread as it was very informative. Does anyone know if water entry into this particular gap would cause electric issues with the headlamps? I am totally fine with the gap if it's purely cosmetic (I observed it on mine recently and noticed the flex when I pressed down on it). I wasn't sure if these headlight units were sealed.
