  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, yesterday when driving home I turned on my front defrost, and now it won't turn off. No matter what I do, that damn thing won't go off. It won't let me change from outside to inside air, it won't let me change the vents to use the front or floor vents... I disabled smart vent and the auto defrost, still stays on despite pushing every damn climate control button or knob possible.

I can change fan speeds, change temps, enable/disable AC. Rear defrost turns on and off like normal, and my seat vent and heat works. It's just the front defrost...wtf.

Planning on using the reset button next to the volume knob. Also planning on disconnecting the batter for a few minutes. I'll post if that fixes it; but, just wanted to see if anyone else has/has this problem?

@Toddasaurus take a look at page 3-132 and 3-133 of the Manual. There are something called " Defogging Logic" and " Auto Defogging System" that perhaps are the culprit of your problem. There is some explanation on those pages but for telling you the truth I don't understand a fu****ing thing just that there is a way to cancel or reset the Defogging Logic and maybe that could solve your problem.

I was looking through those very pages and noticed that about resetting the defrost logic, and it also mentioned that d/c'ing the battery temporarily will reset things as well.

I'll try the steps mentioned here....

....and see what happens. If nothing, I'll try the reset button next to the volume knob. If still no go, then I'll go to the battery. I just hope I don't have to go to my idiot dealership for this...

I don't think the reset button would do anything but the cancel/reset defogging logic or the battery disconnect can do it. Good luck and keep us posted.

Okay, looks like that procedure worked! Just held down the AC button, and whole holding it I pressed the recirculating air button like 5-6 times really quick, which made that little light blink a few times and then now it's working normally! Now I can actually change modes again. Nice.

Good to know. Even though that chapter in the Manual was written for an engineer (I still don't understand anything), the resetting of "defogging logic" was understandable and encouraging...... and it works!!

So, it happened again! Seems to happen when I do a remote start, then immediately turn on front defrost after I get in. Not every time, mind you, but this is the second time it's happened so far since owning my car.

Resetting the front defogging logic worked again, though. Thanks again for the tip, @danygenesis !

Are you remote starting with the defroster on?

I remote start with heated features on, but nothing else. So, no front defrost or climate control. Take a look...

...it's after remote starting, then I manually turn on the front defrost in the car that it has gotten stuck that way twice in owning the car (almost a year now).

I think there's a conductivity sensor up in the camera pod that measures if there is condensation on the windshield. Maybe yours is busted.

I think a few people on here have the shop manual. Maybe see if there is a sensor.... At least I'll let you one if it's repairable.
