  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front license plate mounting

The only people that harass me with the plates are TX state troopers. Seems like they have nothing better to do. Ha ha. I've been pulled over many times just for the lack of front plates. So now I just don't pass them even if they're going slower than the speed limit; I waste more time getting pulled over. Ha ha. But not even the local cops give you grief for that. It's been many years since I was last pulled over, and hope it stays that way. Ha ha. Now that I drive 2 four-bangers, I don't drive that fast anymore, but still do 90 when possible, so have to keep watching for cops. Never speed in the city (plus I drive very little), so don't even put the radar detector anymore (only on trips). Not worth it, since most city cops have laser nowadays.

Hitting on 61 here, so far from a teenager. Ha ha. And locally I never get harassed by cops for lack of front plate. Where I always get harassed is on the highway, by troopers, who seem not having anything better to do than that. Ha ha. So now when I see one, I just don't pass them, to avoid wasting even more time getting pulled over. Never a ticket so far, but lots of wasted time checking me out, and giving me warnings. I don't have any warnings on my current 2 vehicles, so that's good. Ha ha.

Yea, watch out. The pr*cks with DPS have been on a tear recently doing petty equipment checks. After having my Genesis for the last two years with no problem, I have been pulled over three times in two weeks by Troopers explicitly for no front license plate.

We either have a rash of bored Texas DPS troopers on I-10 and I-20, or they have been instructed to be vigilant on equipment violations (the one today denied the latter).

Hey, thanks for the heads up. Where do you live, by the way? And yes, I've never, ever been stopped for lack of a front plate by anybody except state troopers (on those black Tahoes). The good news now is I haven't been stopped in a while, so I should have a safe 'exit' with my 2 vehicles now, since they're new. But if I'm given a warning, it'd be harder to get out of a 2nd stop, but guess depends on the time in-between, no? Do you know how long the warnings stay in their system? Just curious. The best solution for me would be a decal license plate, but cannot find anybody who makes them. I'd put one in European style on my SF, but there's not even enough space for that one on the G70, so hope I never have to do that. Ha ha. My possible solution if I'm forced to put one would be a tow hook bracket, I think. Take care.

I'm in Midland, but stop #1 of the 3 was on I-20 while on my way to El Paso.
Stop #3 two days ago was on I-10 coming from San Antonio and once again headed towards EP, just outside of Fort Stockton.

Those warnings are in the system for *years*. And the Troopers see them when they pull up your license. The second one knew I had been pulled over previously for the front plate, he mentioned something about it. The third trooper made a comment that while I'm getting a warning, another Trooper may see the others and decide to write a ticket. I told him I'm hoping for it as I'll take it to a jury trial and subpoena someone from Hyundai to testify (I'm a trial lawyer lol).

I have been eyeing those European plates. Not sure they would help though, the Texas Transportation code is rigid on plates.

This weekend I'm pondering attaching the plate to a license plate holder and then zip tying it to the bottom of the grill. F those Troopers, let's see them start measuring on the side of the road to make sure the plate is 12 inches off the ground.

What, exactly, is that 12” law? From the bottom of the plate or any part of the plate being visible 12” blah blah blah?
I was contemplating getting one of those hideaway plate thingies but I think the top of the plate would be <12” if you’re car is lowered at all.

I live in El Paso, and travel to Austin and Fort Worth often, to visit my daughters. And that area is exactly where I always get pulled over too. But it's more common from El Paso to Junction. Once I get the first warning, which I always use an an excuse I didn't get a front plate holder (ha ha), might buy a tow hook bracket, and install it when traveling in TX.

It's in the Texas Transportation code. The plate must be a minimum of 12'' from the ground. The code doesn't specify which part of the plate (i.e. measured from the top, bottom, etc). But it's nit picky enough. If a Trooper has decided that he's going to enforce front license plate regs, it's another tool in the Nazi arsenal.

Well, if it's not specified where exactly the 12" measurement should be, as long as the 12" mark land on the plate, you'd be fine:p. With a tow-hook bracket, you'd be absolutely fine... BUT it'd most likely interfere with one of the stupid parking sensors. Haven't scrutinized my car yet, but I will before ordering one.

I have the Grimmspeed tow hook holder and I like it. I think I had to make minor adjustments so a sensor would shut up.

I believe that I used the same one that was on my 15 Gen Coupe. They are no longer showing them. It may be the same as the Subaru ones. I'd say to call them.

They do, but it goes up on that beautiful grill.

Welcome. It’s raining out otherwise I’d take a pic for you.

Below is a pretty good product shot I found. Take a look at all those holes, you can position it anyway you want. I positioned mine nice and low so it covers the least amount of the grille without interfering with the sensors. Plus it has an articulating swivel. All metal parts.
I'm struggling to find a bracket that doesn't trip my 2022 G70 front sensor. The one you show might work, can you provide a link to it? I just see the picture.

Check this one out. I love that I can easily remove it when I go to car meets and shows.

I wouldn't want the license plate to block my intercooler, but that's just me.
