  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front License Plate?

I live in Ohio but the car is registered in Michigan where a front plate is not required. Once I took off the front mouting bracket (with holes in the bumper) I went down to Home Depot and found small black plastic covers. These are about the size of a dime and are used to cover wood screw tops on furniture. I put a small dot of clear silicone adhesive on the end and inserted it into each hole on the bumper. While you can see small rounded bumps from these, it looks much better then the holes the dealer put in. (my car is black to the black plastic tabs worked great.

I'm going to move this to the Lounge...

Good thought on the dealer trade. But I don't think this was the case. All of the cars at this dealer had the front plate holder installed with their dealership logoed paper plate in the holder.

I always make the dealership take all advertising off of my vehicle (stickers, license plate holders, etc.) before I drive it off the lot. The exception was the front plate on the Genesis. I took that off when I got home. I usually tell them I am not going to drive around with their name on my car. If someone asks where I purchased, I will be more than happy to tell them.

Wow, I've seen the dealer plates on cars but it's hard to believe they would do that to a Genesis. That should practically be a crime, well, I guess unless it's a against the law to not have it.

I'm with you, I'm more than happy to tell people where I purchased my car from, but I don't want to be a rolling billboard. Oh well, I guess a lot of people leave the dealer advertisements, I see them on cars all the time, so I suppose I can't blame the dealers for it if people put up with it, they're just looking for every opportunity to get their name out there.

This is interesting. I believe the Virginia Code states that front license plate is required in the state for all cars that have been designed to carry one. My Genesis came with the front holder already installed.

On the other hand my 2006 Corvette convertible didn't, so I never bothered to install a 3rd-party solution. I never got a ticket (yet) for that. I couldn't envision a front-plate holder on that front-end, but the Genesis looks good with it, at least from where I sit.

Not to get all legalistic on y'all, but here's what I found in the Code of Virginia:

§ 46.2-715. Display of license plates.

"License plates assigned to a motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, tractor truck, trailer, or semitrailer, or to persons licensed as motor vehicle dealers or transporters of unladen vehicles, shall be attached to the front and the rear of the vehicle. The license plate assigned to a motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer shall be attached to the rear of the vehicle."

Doesn't seem to have an exception for not being designed to carry one. Our other car is a Nissan 300ZX twinturbo and it would look a LOT better without the front plate. Some of our friends in the Z club have taken off (or never installed) the front plate, and there have only been a few issues. People usually seem to get around the problem by telling the officer that they just bought the car and hadn't got around to installing the plate yet. They carry the front plate in the vehicle.

Well, judging by what I have seen I'm not going to install the front license plate bracket. Here in FL no front plate is required so I'm not to take the chance and ruin my car. Thanks for the thread.

LOL ifonline.

But I just saw this.

They did this to my 1st Genny, plus a few extra holes added when they put the dealer plate on it and I made 'em fix the bumper.
