  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took my Genesis, 2012 4.6 v8 with 40,144 mile on it, in for it’s yearly oil and filter change, about 4,000 miles from the last change.

They said I needed to replace my front right and left side control arm bushings because they show tearing and abnormal wear. They said it will cost about $3,400.00.

I said fine, I have the H. H. P. extended warranty, 10 years 100,000 miles. They said they needed to check with Hyundai and will need to get it approved. A week later I called and they said Hyundai denied the claim, noting that the cracking on the bushings are minimal and replacement at this time is not required.

If I did not have the extended warranty I would have paid the $3,400.00 to have a job done, that I did not need.

This leaves me wondering who can you trust in the car industry.

Before spending that much, chances are you'd have gone to an independent shop and asked about it. They would hopefully give you an honest answer and even if not, would have charged much less.

I'm curious if they knew you had a warranty and figured it was a quick buck, then got denied.

There are a few really good shops that make a good honest living but there are many dealers of every brand and some indys that are not. Always question, always get another opinion on a big job. Talk to neighbors and coworkers for recommendations.

Bushings don't wear out that fast on modern cars unless accident damage or chemical damage.

They did not know I had the warranty till I told them after they quoted me a price.

Dealerships survive on used car sales, their service department, and body shop, if they have one. They barely make anything off selling you a new car. Their hope is you will bring it back to them for your covered servicing so they can bill the manufacturer. Interestingly enough, the factories where they're built sell them to the manufacturer which then sells them to the dealerships. It's an odd business model which leads to predatory practices like trying to sell you services you may not need like you found. I'd start asking around for an honest independent shop that you can transition to once you're done with your service contract. I called mine today to inquire about servicing my 2011 4.6 transmission. He said it would be about $160 unless there's some other crazy prices for the filter or fluid. I've heard dealerships will charge at least double that.
