  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis 3.8L. I'm trying to replace the fuel filler door release module. I've seen a couple of YouTube vids on it and it seemed fairly straightforward. I bought an OEM spare part online, and then tried to get through the trunk liners to make sure I could reach the module. I'm still not sure I can do that. There appears to be some other module in the way -- perhaps the trunk lid motor assembly. In any case, I then tried to remove the filler cap module and found the four screws that hold the module onto the body just spin -- never loosen. I'm guessing they're "screw clips", but I can't be sure, and if I break them, I'll never get them replaced.... Anybody else do this on a 2015-2016 Genesis? I'm stumped.

I've not done this replacement and hope I never have to try it. I could not find the video of Genesis Sedan fuel actuator replacement on line but did locate the procedure as done by a forum member. Please see the following:

Hope this helps you. Just copy and paste to read the repair.

I had read that post, and I'll read it again. I'm going to get a quote from the dealer or local repair guy before I go further. I was able to successfully reach the part from behind after I got the trunk liner out, but the 4 fasteners holding the plate surrounding the filler neck don't match up with the post. I did find an exploded diagram, and they appear to be clips as opposed to screws. This is insane.

I haven't gotten a quote for the job from a dealer yet, but I did find the retail list price for the part is $140+. I bought it (in the original Hyundai bag) for $23.

OK, I got the job done. I stopped in at a very small auto repair shop near my neighborhood and asked the owner if he could do the job. "Sure, probably 1/2 to 1 hours' work, and I'm happy to install the part you bought. I can't do it today, though... How about tomorrow...." What a delightful experience. They even replaced any clips they broke instead of cobbling it back together without them.... They did forget to thread the emergency tab through the trunk liner. I'll have to have 'em fix that. I'm not worried. $135. Great Success!
