  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Our manuals say to change the fuel filter every 37,500 or 30 months. Has anyone had this repair done? If so, how much did it cost and how long did it take?

My dealer didn't want to do it. The manual says fuel filter and also a fuel tank air filter. (at least my 09' manual does)

I asked the dealer for a quote to have it done, and all I got was - it is in the tank and it is difficult to do. It isn't really necessary. I didn't feel like arguing so I let it go that day.

I did say...if something goes wrong in the fuel system, are you going to penalize me because it wasn't done? He said - no. I am sure I would never get that in writing.

I am interested in hearing what other owners have experienced at their dealers.

Its my understanding that it is not a "fuel filter', but an air filter for the fuel tank. (filters the air that goes into the tank as the fuel is used up).

Agreed, I would never change it. Think of it as like the old charcoal canisters GM used.

Probably just best to think of it as a lifetime unit. Even my dealer says the same.

I have only heard of one person on the forum having this changed. I find it odd that Hyundai would require it...and then informally say it is not required. Does it surprise me? No...

Here's an email I just got from a senior service technician that I am friends with at a large Hyundai dealership in Southern California:
We never really change fuel filters, I would probably wait till about 100k. Even then it's really up to you if you feel it needs to be changed.

I was informed that the fuel filter should be changed between 90,000 km - 100,000 km. The fuel filter is located in the fuel tank should be changed every 80,000 to 100,000 km and ... not all services.

I done few of this on my car pretty much easy if you have a hose pincher. you can easily release the pressure of the fuel tank by loosening the cap. On older cars with carburetor engines, fuel lines attached with simple necklaces. On fuel injection engines, fuel lines attached with clamps or couplings with locking, which requires a special tool to remove it. Some imported vehicles, the fuel lines attached to the banjo fitting fuel filter. Copper washers on the banjo fittings must be replaced when the fuel filter changed. Some of the few articles I read on how to replace a fuel filter are really helpful for me.

Why does Hyundai recommend change the fuel filter on a 2011 Genesis Sedan but when Firestone calls the Hyundai dealer to get a filter they tell them that it is not serviceable ?
Why does the manual say to do it but it is not serviceable ?
Thanks Hyundai for the notification that it needs to be changed ???
