If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. My 2011 started acting like it was out of gas. Died out. Restarted and drove 2 miles. Did that 3 or 4 times and then just stopped. Won’t restart. 1/4 tank of fuel in it. Has no check engine light. 162,000 miles. I’m thinking fuel pump. Any ideas. Thanks

Any codes? Have you ever had the fuel filter changed. Possibly clogged?

No check eng light. Not sure if I have to get the light to get the code. Fuel filter hasn’t been changed.

had an old ranger with 150 on the clock and no fuel pressure, no start, no codes. Ended up being the filter. Start with checking pressure at the rail and work your way backwards.

I just went out to get the the fuel pump. Tried to start the car so I could see if the fuel pump kicked out. It started right up. Running perfect. Don’t know what’s up. I have a 10 hour drive to make and was going to try and fix this so I didn’t have to rent a car. But now it’s running but I don’t know if I can trust it for this drive

Over the last 21 days I have had a similar problem. Cur shut down and
would not start. Waited 10 min. and got the car off the road. Towed to my Mechanic. NO PROBLEM FOUND, NO CODES. Test drove for 3 days.
Picked it up and drove less than 6 miles, started bucking and finally shut down. Waited for about 15 min. and it started. Drove to gas station and
filled it with premium. Would not start after fueling. Waited 10 min. (called tow Co,) and tried to start it. It started so I drove around parking lot and it seemed OK. Mechanic said it had a code that indicated a Cam
shaft oil timing valve. After 4 days part del and installation I picked up the car. 4 days later after medium driving distance , 50 miles, it started bucking and stalled. Started after 15 min. Towed to Mech. and he indicated it was a cam sensor causing the ejectors to not fire. Awating outcome. Should have been finished today. No news is bad news.

Wow, that sucks from a confidence POV. If you have a day before the long trip I'd go out for an hour and drive hard. Could have been some strange hiccup from the gas but it sounded like pump or filter but could be anything. Why not see if there are codes.

Picked up car on Fri. after cam shaft sensor was installed. Mechanic dove it about 50 miles with no problem. I put 10 gal of premium fuel in the tank and drove about 20 min....no problem. Drove it another 38 miles later without any issues.
On Sat 8/25 I wanted to replicate the symptoms so with the fuel tank at 1/2 , and late morning around 11 AM I drove the car for about 35 miles at 55 MPH with on issues. I stopped at WalMart for 15 minutes
and restarted the car and drove about 2 miles when it started bucking
and the engine light came on. I drove into a shopping ctr. and shut it down for about 15 min. After sitting for a brief period it started up and ran fine. I drove to my mechanics garage ( 2 miles) No problem with the car in that short trip.
NAY SUGGESTION

1. Change the fuel filter. 162k miles is about 4x its normal life (change every 37.5k mi according to my old '09 manual).

2. Fuel pump is failing (gets worse when hot).

3. If it's throwing the same cam sensor code, then check the wiring harness to that sensor the mechanic worked on (might have been the wire, not the sensor).

Thanks for the inputs. The car was taken into the shop again on Sat.
Instructed the mech. to check the fuel pump again. I think it is failing when it gets hot......less than 1/2 tank and sittings in sun for 10-15 minutes.

call from mechanic. symptom is the same......Starts to buck ,then shuts down. Wait 15 min and car starts and drives normally........

So you have replaced the fuel pump ,filter and camshaft sensor and you still have the same problem.

Have not replaced the fuel pump. Mechanic had it under test and it died.
Would not restart.
It is now at a Hyundai Dealer.

Well good luck with it. If anything new pops up or they figure it out please let me know. I don’t know what to start replacing. Ive had 9 shoulder surgeries and about to have my 10th and I don’t have the extra cash to put it in the shop to get fixed. Have to try to do it myself. Thanks.

Well at least the parts guy got a nice vacation.

It may be cheaper to at least have the dealer run some diagnostics rather than putting expensive parts in it. They should have more equipment to check than just a code reader.

Good luck with the car and the surgery

Just heard from Hyundai Dealer. Finally got it started, showed 3 codes.
Erased them and attempted to restart. Checked plugs and fuel was sitting on the cylinders.
Bottom line: Replacing all 8 injectors and plugs, Hopefully that fixes the problem but no guarantee.

I’m lost on that one. Are they thinking all injectors failed at once and then all started working again. I’m sure they know more the me. Lol. I want my 1969 chevell back. I could fix anything on that car. Well I hope it fixes the problem. Please let me know when you find out. And thanks for all the help and info
