If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Future Buyer. I Really Need Help w/ Questions

If you can get a 2012 for 24k that is a great deal and something you may have to consider. Assuming the car is slightly used? I did a good amount of research and do not think you can get better value for your money than a Genesis Sedan when you compare cars.

Take a look at a 2011 V8 with Tech and the 17 speaker Lexicon system.

suspension ... improved between 2009 and 2012 also.

Recently had a 2012 4.6 loaner and own a 2009 4.6 tech and (as many others have stated) there's a big improvement in the suspension and ride quality in the 2012. I also like the looks of the 2012 a bit better, and the dynamic cruise is a nice plus during the daily commute.

I was thinking about the 4.6 but i dont need a V8 because Im sure insurance goes up also it gets worse gas mileage. Id rather stick with the less powerful 3.8 with better gas mileage. But yea the one I drove was 24k on the nose and I know its a good deal but it just comes down to payments.

If I can sell my Tiburon for 7k because it only has 67k miles on it with no past accidents and runs great mechanically then put that 7 as my down payments, I would like to see what my payments for a Genesis would be. My limit is 250 a month. So if they can get my a 24k car for under 250 a month I would be all for it but Im guessing that to get the financing I want, the car is going to have to cost under 22k.

I found one I really really like on auto trader.

This is the one I Test Drove

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...1000&listingId=336334815&listingIndex=1&Log=0

and this is the one that fits the bill.

The second one is in my price range, has the tech package I want and low miles. I just hope they have the stock rims and tires because I have no use for 22 inch chrome wheels lol.

and this last one is just the greatest deal ever. 2012.. a little over 22k. I just hate silver cars with a passion. Its the most boring, standard car color there is and they just blend in on the road.

Both of the 2012's (first and last one above) are Base Trim models. Based on their mileage, possibly rentals.

The middle one has Premium Package (14-speaker), but not Technology Package (17-speaker). There are other differences besides audio system. I don't know why you think those after-market wheels are not included, since they are clearly shown in the pics.

Gas mileage is about 1 or 2 mpg less with a v8 and insurance may be same or less depending on where you live. The 2011 V8 gets bigger brakes, bigger wheels, more trim accents, smart cruise control, 17 speaker Lexicon sound system, and 385 hp for fun.

You live in the snow belt you buy a Subaru. Getting a quick RWD car in snow is just not practical.

I know i live in the snow belt but its not like we get constant snow for 4 months straight. Every once in a while we will get hammered with snow for a day or 2 but those few days out of the year isnt gonna deter me from getting the car I really want especially when im spending 22k of my money to be able to drive it the other 9 or 10 months when its clear and sunny. Plus my dad has two trucks. Avalanche and a F150 if things get too bad he said I can borrow one of those for the bad winter days.

I work at a car dealership and just talked to my finance adviser. He said If i can get 7k for the tiburon, I can get a 21.5k genesis for 250 a month which is my limit. So basically now Im looking for a 20-22k genesis. I didnt know that about the V8. I have seen a lot of them for sale but I overlook them because I assumed the insurance for a 24 year old driving a RWD V8 would skyrocket and make it that much harder to drive in the snow. More power=less traction from a stop. I was also worried about the MPG with a V8 but if it is only slightly less then the V6 it probably is something to look into.

Well yes to your point, I know the rims come with that second car but Im saying I just dont want them. I hope they have the stock rims and tires because I dont want/need 20+" chrome rims lol. So basically I would get that one but just put the stock rims back on it and sell the chrome ones. Or have them knock off money of the price.

Ask your insurance agent about the difference in rates. What applies to someone on this forum who lives in a different city, and who is significantly older than you, may not apply to you.

The MPG for the two engines is published, and you should look them up. The difference is not 1 or 2, etc, it is a specific number.

My Genesis is not the only car in this snowbelt household, but its the one I drive every day without without anguish.

well the 2012 with the sexy headlights is aparently out of my price range:( lol I guess Im gonna have to home for a 2010 or 11 for around 20-21k. Hopefully I can find one under 50k miles with the tech package.

Don't know where you live or how good a driver you are, but there aren't a lot or RWD cars quicker than my old '67 Vette. I got along with it fine during Wisconsin and Minnesota winters long before there were things like Blizzak tires.

Again, a RWD car with Blizzak tires (and a half-way competent driver) is fine in the North Country.

yes thats what everybody has been telling me. Im a good driver, never been in an accident or anything. People actually tell me I drive like a grandma for the car I had. Believe it or not the tiburon was pretty quick so anytime my friends got to drive it they would rip on it pretty hard.

In my opinion, you should wait and save up a higher down payment so that you can get the car you want. Save up a little longer and get the 2012 with premium package or with premium and tech. You don't want to have any regrets later on down the line and be like "I wish I got the one with the technology and the awesome sound system".

Biggest difference is the suspension is more refined (more settled, IMO). Visual differences are significant with lower body panels, front and rear bumper/fascia, and different tail lights. Other differences I believe have already been mentioned.

The better suspension tuning helped, but getting rid of the horrible OEM Dunlops also helped the ride.

As for the OP, if he can't find the right Genesis for his price range, I'd suggest looking at a used Optima SX rather than the Sonata - better looking, better handling, higher end interior and all around a better car (but if you really have your heart set on the Genesis... just wait, one will eventually pop up).

Smart advice.

On Genesis Base models, there is no sunroof, which increases headroom, but I have heard that many of the used ones were former rentals (you can check that out on CarFax). Base model stereo is OK, but probably not for people who want a boom-box. Genesis Premium or Technology Packages come with much better sound systems (and surround sound).
