If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good afternoon,

I am looking to buy a 2015 Genesis 5.0 with the ultimate package. I have my eyes on a black one with 42k miles, clean carfax.
They are asking 22k for it, and it looks to be in great condition based on photos. After reading reviews and some reading on this forum, it seems that the ultimate package gives you a large 9.2" screen (although no apple carplay support), 17 speaker lexicon system, and a HUD. Are there any more differences?

What are your likes/dislikes of the vehicle, and what is the maintenance like on these (oil change cost and so on)?
Is there anything I should be looking for when I go check out the car?

Thanks in advance
Marius

First thing that comes to mind to check is the sunroof operation as far as things you might want to pay attention to on this car more so than any other car you'd be looking over. My wife's '15 non-ultimate is her second '15 (someone t-boned the first one) but sunroof issues were had in both. The infamous rattle and/or struggling to close. Her current one has an a/c problem but the first one didn't. The first one went to 92k miles without any significant issues. No issues at all, really. Other than the sunroof rattle.

Sounds like a good price. The Ultra also gives you a power trunk and rear sunshade.

I see the sunroof was already mentioned. Some had problems. I never did, but I never open it. If buying from a Hyundai/Genesis dealer, be sure the map is up to date to at least 12.5 or 13.

Another difference with the Ultimate package would be the power trunk you'd get with it, and some added adaptive suspension damping I believe. I don't recall any others.

Bought in late march and getting my oil changed for the first time today. I made sure they're using Synthetic oil and it's about $78 I believe. It's also getting a new idler pulley and water pump (both under warranty). I heard the pulley making noise at idle so that's why I took it in. Only thing I've had wrong with it so far in the short time I've owned it-- I'm at 44k miles, 3-4k during my time of ownership.

Biggest thing I would check for is any issue with electronics. I haven't had any so far, but:
-Test out all the seat functions, have it move all the way front to bad, do the same with the sunroof a few times, the rear sunshade, heat/ventilation etc.

-The mirrors have puddle lights, if you go at night make sure they come on when the car is unlocked. You could probably also put your hand under them in the daytime to hide the sunlight and see if you can tell that an LED is coming from there.

-The car also has auto-folding mirrors when locked, but you need to make sure they're turned on by checking the setting on the driver-side door. Fold them in and out a few times to see if there's any resistance/struggle.

-The front door sills w/ the Genesis logo should also be illuminated so make sure they are.

-Test the cruise control/adaptive functionality while driving

-With the HUD on and in park, you can find the settings to change its placement/text color by using the steering wheel controls to scroll and find it. Make sure everything works there.

I paid 2700 for an extended platinum warranty through Hyundai. If you're going to do the same, make sure it's through Hyundai and not a third party.

22k for an ultimate 5.0 sounds incredibly good to the point where I'm suspicious as to why they're pricing it there. I paid 26k out the door for mine without the ultimate package and the same mileage as you, so as long as everything checks out I think that's a steal!

Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions I might be able to answer!

Thank you all for such quick replies, I now have some insight as to what I should be looking out for.
As far as warranty goes, do these have any remaining warranty of the 10 year/100k? If I purchase warranty through hyundai, how long does that cover me for?

Edit: this is the vehicle I was looking at, 46k miles, not 42, but otherwise I was correct haha. They agreed to 22k so far, but I'm still talking to them via email. If posting links is not allowed, let me know.

Since this one you're looking at is CPO, you get everything about the original warranty.

If it wasn't, I believe you'd only get the remainder of the powertrain coverage as not everything else transfers. I may be mistaken on that.

IF you can swing to a 2016 you get a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty on everything, including the electronics. 2015 is only 3 years. Get 10/100,000 on powertrain on both 2015 and 2016,

Also, only get a Hyundai warranty. Third parties are not reliable generally.

I can't seem to find any 2016 5.0? is that when they switched to the G80?

I looked for a 2016 5.0 as well and I was told that very few were imported that year or none were depending on the dealer. I myself was never able to locate one and went with the 3.8 2016 for the better warranty.

For what I read the sunroof rattle and rear view camera malfunction is the only major issues the 2015 Genesis 5.0 has. I personally only have the rear view camera issue(will not switch view angles) on my 2015 5.0 Ultimate model. My sunroof is rattle free. No other noticeable issues so far at 63k miles.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this but this thread works for it.

Almost two weeks ago I bought a '15 5.0. They had to order some replacement parts before I'd agree to buy it so that's why I don't have it now. During that time, I've made several calls to several dealers since the dealer for mine only offers third party warranties. I'm not interested in those so I found some dealers willing to sell me a Hyundai CPO Wrap for 6/100 Platinum for around $1800 for my '15 with 24,700 miles.

I then called the CPO Wrap telephone number and spoke with Hyundai on clarification of the coverage of the head unit, nav, etc. The reason I needed clarification was because while the car is a CPO, it's past the 3 year mark for coverage of the head unit ($$$). The CPO person I spoke with told me that even though the vehicle is past the 3/36 for the electronics, the CPO Wrap would still cover it since it was sold as a CPO vehicle and clearly had everything working at the time of sale.

The head unit is my primary concern because of the crazy cost of a replacement. That's really my only major concern, hence my willingness to pay for a warranty that really wouldn't be very beneficial to me otherwise.

Just FYI in case anyone has wondered the same thing.

So that warranty will cover you until 2021 correct?

@EdP @Bourbonncigars Can one of you please send me a pm, I can’t seem to message either one of you. I found a Genesis that I really want, but I’m wondering if either one of you could take a look and see if it looks decent for the price?

The early 9.2" HU's seemed to be pretty flakey - Over half of the ones that I researched when I was looking had CARFAX entries noting that they had been replaced relatively early in the vehicle's life. Usually within a year or so after purchase.

the ultimates also have active shocks. I noticed a difference when driving a base 5.0

I've driven both too - the base seems to split the difference between the ultimate's "normal" (slightly softer) and "sport' (slightly harder).
