  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G2 sightings on the increase

For most people, a luxury car is something that people buy when they are done paying for the house and done putting their kids through college and have put enough money away in their Roth IRAs and 401Ks. A lot of the older generation don't realize that we can do all that AND have luxury cars at the same time. My Dad wanted a corvette for as long as I can remember as a kid and just recently went ahead and bought himself a Z06 after he retired.

I think it's because you're Asian, XPO439 so they thought you were 19. Asians don't age. At least not visually. They have no idea you and wifey have well established careers lol.

Pretty funny. Look after those credit card interest charges.

Credit cards are paid flat every month. I don't pay interest. The only debt I carry is my mortgage, for which I pay 1/12th more every month and whats left of my student loans, which should be gone in the next 4 years. Roth IRA and my 403B are both max funded and I have various other retirement accounts, including whole life insurance.

Have to admit I have a 4 year old and we haven't started putting money away yet into her college fund, but that's mainly because I don't like idea of 529s and how they lock the money up where it can't be re-directed if the kid doesn't end up going to college. It's my money and I want it back. I don't want to gift it to somebody else.

Thanks for the advice though!

Definitely going to see more of the G2's on the road. Sales are pretty good when compared to some of its competitors in the segment. For the first 3 months of 2017 Genesis has sold 3,952 G80's. Here are what some competitors have sold in the same period.

Acura RLX - 293
Volvo S90 - 1,041
Infiniti Q70 - 1,962
Lexus GS - 1,695
Jaguar XF - 1,285
Cadillac CTS - 2,486
Audi A6 - 3,678
BMW 6 Series - 6,641
MB E-Class - 11,872

Wow that e-class is just killing it.

Pretty amazing since the E Class is now only available with a 2.0L 4 cylinder Turbo (not counting the AMG version).

But not sure why BMW 5 series is not included in the above numbers, since I am sure it bigger than 6 series.

Typo, it should be 5 Series rather than 6.

Well, after a years ownership, and always turning my head when I see a Genesis, I FINALLY saw Manhattan Brown. Was in a parking lot, so I got to give it a good long looking over. It was however, a G90, not a G2 Genesis/G80. I must say, the car wore that color well. Very nice looking. Seen very few G90s around here.

Rapid City, SD has around 70k people. Genesis's - 3 lol including mine. I haven't seen any G80's yet but definitely more aware of the car now

Near as I can tell, I have the only Genesis in town. Population 10,000 so that sounds about right. I see very few on the road around here but I see one maybe every couple of weeks. Two years ago it was a sighting every couple of months.

I live outside of Austin and see a reasonable number of Genesis. My neighbor 2 doors down has one too.

I see a couple here in San Antonio as well but pretty few. I think it's because the Hyundai dealerships here are pretty lackluster, not even sure they sell new Gennys. As I recall there is a really nice Hyundai dealership right outside of Austin that moves alot of g80s and g90s. I looked there for a Genesis originally, but their prices were high and very firm.

In the affluent suburban area where I work, I see daily a variety of "high-end" autos on the streets: a ton of teslas, maserati, bentleys & benz. I also have seen a rare G90, two new G80s—and yesterday I actually saw a G2 5.0 near-identical to mine at an intersection. Gave the guy a thumbs up & he reciprocated. :)

The 5.0 seems to be a rare bird ( at least around here ). The G90 I mentioned in an earlier post was a 5.0, but that has been the only V8 I've seen. I know Aquineus is floating around here somewhere with his, but our paths have yet to cross.

Saw my first 2G Genesis sedan while riding my motorbike in traffic in the summer of 2016. First thing I noticed was the killer tail light design. I pulled up next to it and looked it over - made the decision right then and there that it would be my next car. Lo and behold, it now is.

Any Genesis sedan model seems to be very rare in these parts. I rarely see one.

Don't you love it when a dream comes true? I bought my '91 Regal in a similar manner. The Buick dealer I pass on the way to work had one sitting out front. I passed it every day and just had to have one. Took a while to find the exact one I wanted, but finally got it.

Yah. I love it when the dream comes to fruition... especially sweet luxury car purchases!

Every one of the few G2 owners I've spoken with here in Tyler (pop 100K) in the almost 2 years since I bought my 5.0 have been super-friendly. We toot and wave at each other on the street and stop to visit during parking lot encounters.

Most of them are, of course, 3.8 versions. As far as I can tell, there's only one other black 5.0 around (belongs to one of the managers at the local Hyundai dealership) and a lone white 5.0.
