G70 2.0T Sport(RWD) 2019. Clutch dropped / failed while on the highway…

Has anyone ever had this happen to them?

I went for a 5 hour drive for the first time with my g70, I stopped at a store and then felt like my car was not accelerating when I hit the gas. Made it to my destination but the gas took longer then expected for each gear…

Had it looked at and they said it’s probably just a sensor I’m fine to drive it home. Well after 1h45 minutes of highway driving I stopped feeling any acceleration at 120kmph- gave it some gas and nothing, all of a sudden my clutch just pressed itself down all by itself so I pulled over.

Pulled the clutch back up manually, then while on the phone with roadside it started working again so I was on my way again… 10 minutes later, no more go power… pulled over, tow time…

Now my car is 500kms away at a dealership, just looking for what to expect from genesis on this one!

Well. They want $3300 to fix it… but maybe once they open it up it’s under warranty…

Are you the 2nd owner? Or are you saying this was the first time you went on a long 5hr drive with your G70?

It sounds like at some point in your trip, your clutch started slipping. RPM went up when you squeeze the accelerator pedal, but vehicle speed did not increase correspondingly, correct? At that point, it's probably not good to keep driving the car for very long. At best, you would just wear out the clutch disc even faster. At worst, you could overheat and/or damage related parts.

The clutch pedal dropping all the way to the floor may or may not be related. It could be that your problem started out with something wrong in the clutch master/slave cylinders, such that the slave cylinder was not retracting fully - causing the clutch to slip. Then as you kept driving, at some point, the master cylinder just lost all fluid (or failed in another way), such that the pedal could not return at all.

I've had cars with slipping clutches but I have not had one fail this drastically. Keep us posted on what the service dept finds out.
