  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

New here! I am on the verge of possibly purchasing a 2019 G70 this week.

A little background -- This would be my first Genesis. My last 2 cars have been BMWs (335i, 440xi GC), and I have loved them, but they were leases. I'm tired of leasing and this time around I want to buy, which has me thinking much harder on things like warranty. Nonetheless, I am not 100% sure I want to leave BMW (haven't yet had a chance to drive the new M340i), but I'm getting close... especially with the crazy deals currently available on the 2019 G70s.

Yesterday I drove a 3.3T Dynamic AWD and really enjoyed it. That is the last '19 3.3T Dynamic in my area. There is also 1 2019 3.3T AWD w/Sport package in the area.

Is there any substantive difference between these?? They look identical, same engine. All I have found online or heard from the salesman (who tried to tell me there were only 50 Dynamics manufactured & only 8 sold in the US :-/) is that the Dynamic has tuning tweaks (and maybe a different sound system)?

I care about power & handling... but I am not taking this on a track. I am using it as a daily driver, and I like to get some joy out of my daily drive, but I am unconvinced that the "tweaks" in the Dynamic would make any palpable difference for me vs the Sport package.

Do you guys agree, or is there some more tangible reason I should prefer the Dynamic over one with the Sport package?

TIA!

When I was looking at G70's (ended up buying a G80), it was confusing to me to remember the package names and options. I finally took cell phone photos of the window stickers of the different models / packages so I could compare.

It may help to go to the "Build you G70" link on the Genesis website - it helps you see the options and how they build on each other.

From what I understand, there were 400 vehicles of the Dynamic Edition built. The differences between the Dynamic and Sport trims are performance brake pads, model-specific tuning for its adaptive suspension system, and a heated steering wheel on all-wheel-drive equipped models, per this article.

I think the only meaningful difference may be that the Dynamic comes with high performance brake pads, which if you do some searching on this forum you'll see is a big deal and badly needed to avoid persistent brake vibration from pad deposits when using the standard pads. Those better pads are like $400 just for the front!
I'm not sure about some of the other options (like wireless charging, etc...). As @TinsleyC said, the various trim packages for these cars can get really confusing, especially when the limited edition models (Dynamic and Design) aren't even in the sales brochure. 🙄

So the dynamic had items the sport does not, such as different brake pads? I thought the sport was the most expensive optioned model and had pretty much everything?

You're correct, for the 2019 models, the Dynamic edition had extras the Sport did not have.

So the Brembo brake pads on the Sport Edition aren't high performance?

depends on your definition. Street driving they are fine, until you put too much heat into them in an emergency stop and they leave deposits on your rotors causing the well known shuddering issue. The normal brembo pads stop fine as long as you dont hold the brakes down after a hard stop, the dynamic was just supposed to be more 'track ready' from my understanding

No. They are prone to overheating and leaving deposits on the rotors, causing vibration under braking. All it takes is a little spirited driving, or an emergency stop.

Well, that's just great. I've never even heard of this happening to cheap brakes. What's the point of having these expensive brakes then?

I don’t know. They really screwed up in terms of the normal pads they chose. It’s all over the stinger forums too, and we have a TSB out about it. They do stop damn quick tho!

My standard genesis 5.0 brakes were shit heated up so fast going down grades I switched rotors and pads for ebc brand.. they did a great job until their got warped less then 15k miles anyways no longer have that car got a g70 dynamic edition should be here next week >.< 5.0 was too heavy

No problems with the Euro-spec Stinger pads, but they are pricey.

I agree! The dealer replaced my rotors for free after about 30,000 miles. The rotors had to be turned 3 times and needed replacing.
