  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just read this about a recall for G70's:

Faulty ABS Recall Expands for Genesis | The BRAKE Report

The best part: "Customers can continue driving these vehicles with the faulty ABS module; however, Hyundai recommends parking these vehicles outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed".

Man, that advice does sound insane.

One: The ABS module is faulty it seems ; which makes driving on it very dangerous.

Two: A faulty ABS module will set your car on fire. Imagine it happening while you are at work or in traffic.

Three: The ABS modules are faulty; so the cars should not be driven until all the older ABS modules has been replaced for updated ones that has been sorted out. Right now it is a gamble that your ABS module is not defective and not a ticking time bomb. Not good.

The Genesis/G80 has the same issue. I pull my 40A brake fuses when I park my car in the garage at home and hope for the best when I drive my car to work with the 40A fuses reinstalled.

My 2019 Canadian G70 doesn't appear to be impacted. I wonder why some VINs are and others aren't. From what I was able to find there are 3 car impacted to date and all outside of North America. So maybe there are specific circumstances? It's also a cross model issue. Overall, the risk is likely low but everyone should make their own decision on how to proceed.

Mine (2019 US G70) isn't showing up as being impacted either.

Just a word of caution based on how I saw that Hyundai handled previous ABS problems on the BH sedan: just because they aren't showing up for recall now doesn't mean the recall won't get expanded in the future. While I know there are minor changes to production based on OEM suppliers all the time, I have a hard time believing that this particular issue doesn't affect all G70s (and G80s for that matter). And as someone else noted in another thread, if they're replacing a fuse, then something caused that fuse to require replacement in the first place.

I just got off the phone with my local "service advisor". It seemed to take him a while to even figure out what I was talking about. He finally found it, and said that they had "only" learned about it 20 days ago. Right now he said they don't have a fix and don't know which VIN numbers are affected. He was looking at some report that indicated all of the known issues (fires??) were in the southern US states, except for one in NJ. He basically said to wait until I hear from them. Great. 🤨

This showed up earlier this month on my gas buddy app.

Didn't the Kia Stinger get this recall a couple years back? I'm pretty sure it's a pretty wide recall with many affected Hyundai and Kia models. My family Santa Fe had an ABS recall last year.

So it may only be for cars without Smart Cruise?

Update: over the past few days I spoke to the service manager at the dealer where my G70 has been serviced and also spoke to someone at Genesis Canada. Both said the same thing, there is a current recall for G70's and my car's VIN is not on the list. They told me that the majority of the gas being recalled, at least in Canada, are the 4 cylinder G70's.

Interesting and good to know.

Today's the day they're supposed to start sending recall notices and my car is affected — I'll post the recall letter once I get it!

i got my letter last week. it is titled "Safety Recall (Interim) Notice". Transport Canada # 2021-134. Genesis # R0185.

interim recommendations, while Gen Can sorts out remedy prep, is to "park outside, away from structures...but otherwise drive as normal...if CEL comes on, seek service and arrange for courtesy vehicle".

there's more, but that's the gist. it affect certain 2019-2021 G70 models.

Mine is part of the recall as well. Since it will be due for regular service soon, hoping that this will be sorted out in time to get it all done at the same time.

So far, my G70 (2020 3.3T Sport) is not part of the recall. Anyone know more about if only certain G70s are affected?

So far I see no recall on my specific VIN # either when researching. I have the ‘19 3.3T Elite so I’m assuming it’s not every single G70 with this problem. I read it affected only about 552 G70’s in total. Maybe it’s still coming, but it’s been 2 months already and I probably would have heard by now. I also emailed Genesis customer care & they responded that I’m not affected but referred to the “G80” model recall which basically shows me they didn’t even read my email asking about my G70 🙄

From Road/Show article:
Total, the recall includes 95,198 cars, but the problem is largely focused on the 2017-2020 G80 and 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis with 94,646 of them included, compared to just 552 of the 2019-2021 G70 sedans. Hyundai said it's aware of three fires related to the issue, though none of them took place in the US.

All the recalled vehicles I've personally seen so far are manual transmission only, though the total group may be larger.
