  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 aftermarket brake pads

Hey Guys, I just ordered these pads in hopes of solving my vibration. I saw some saying they developed a clicking noise after install? Has anyone been able to diagnose this issue/found a fix?
I haven't yet. I'm waiting till thatjawncrazy does it first.

It's pretty likely that the aftermarket backing plate is causing it. Swapping the OEM backing plate in should fix it.

It also doesn't have any effect other than noise, atleast that I've noticed.

These pads are also for the 3.3T with brembos right? I'm having trouble figuring that out. Just wanna make sure while I can still cancel them

Yes they are, same ones I got. They fit fine but don't come with hardware.

Stopping power is amazing but dust is definitely there. Not terrible though and a good tradeoff. Some dust for better stopping power and no shudder. I also don't need to be worried about deposits when I brake hard like I was with the ceramics.

Sounds good man. Thanks for the insight. Hoping these work well for me

Are the factory brake pads on the 2.0T SP any better than the 3.3T cars? I know the calipers are smaller, but the wheels and tires are the same, so I'm afraid the pads will still be bad, just smaller. Curious about that. I'll have to change the tires before the winter; don't understand why the 2.0T has the same summer tires as the 3.3T, but nothing I can do about that other than throwing a grand away replacing them. Oh well.

Where did you order the front pads from? I only see the rears available on Rock Auto and couldn't find the fronts.

I wouldn't worry about it until you actually get the problem. If you don't feel the vibration, then just ignore it.

If they're metallics, then you shouldn't get the problem. The brake dust should tell you.

I'm convinced this is a general ceramic problem, not just the stock ceramics. Hot ceramic pads + poor cooling = deposits.

I had to manually input the part number on rockauto. Make sure to include the hyphens. PN is 1552-2155-00. It will come up as "no vehicle specified". Can't confirm they are correct but they match the number listed earlier in the forum so I'm just making a strong assumption. Also wanna say they didn't have many in stock so you may have to wait for a restock.

Thanks! I checked today using the part number in the original post earlier which is 1552-2145-00. Seems like rock auto doesn't have this in stock so I ordered EBC yellow stuff pads in the meantime. I have run EBC Yellow Stuff on BMWs before and they're an excellent pad for street & auto-cross, let's see if it can solve the pad issues for the G70. Few folks on the KIA Stinger forums seem to be running the Yellow Stuff pads in their Brembo's with no issues and good fitment.

I actually wanted the OEM Euro spec pads but they're now a wild $473 for front pads from Conicelli Hyundai and a further $252 for the rears.

Those aren’t the pads that i have. However if the clicking noise with those ones happens only when changing directions, then yeah, it’s also a backing pad issue and swapping the OEM ones should work (if they fit).

Same issue on both sets of pads i guess. Interesting.

So the smaller calipers on the 2.0Ts (and lesser 3.3Ts) have the same pads as the Brembos on 3.3T SPs? Just curious. Thx.

^ the sliding calipers have different pads than the fixed/opposed piston calipers, yes. but all of them have similar ceramic-based compounds. this is the case for all trims EXCEPT for the 2.0T 6MT and 3.3T Dynamic trims from '19-'21. those two trims got the "Euro" sport compound pads which are semi-metallic. the Euro pads are the same as what C&D had to use for their Lightning Lap session with the Stinger back in 2018 after the factory ceramic pads failed and they flew off the track at the end of a straight.

Excellent summary.

Do you have experience with the Yellow Stuff pads in the winter?

Just installed my dynamic friction rears. Seem to fit perfectly and no squeaks so far. Definitely a bit more "dragging" noise, but that's to be expected. My fronts are still in the mail so I'll let you guys know how that works for the shimmy as I assume that most of that is coming from the front.

Yeah, it's the fronts. Hopefully the bedding-in process will clean off the rotor deposits from the old pads.
Let us know how it goes and how you like the feel of the new pads.

For what it's worth, I didn't go through a proper bedding process when installing mine.

Just drove it like normal, and the abrasive nature of the metallics cleaned up the rotors pretty quickly.
