  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 at San Francisco Auto Show

I owned a Corvette from new, 2001, until 2014. In 2012 I purchased a 2013 Genesis Coupe Track which has served me well. I work out of home and when I travel I take Uber so my car is a pleasure vehicle thus going to only one car. I had planned to replace the C5 Corvette with a C7 but the G70 caught my eye and I have been waiting since early 2018 for a release which as we know has been frustrating.

Both cars should be fun to drive,

They are different from the mainstream sports cars or mid luxury cars out there,

Both cars sit two comfortably and have good interiors,

The G70 is a more practical purchase with the longer warranty and lower owner expense,

The Vette is faster and as a previous owner I know the engine and how to work on it,

The G70 has up to date safety features which the Vette does not,

I can get get 16% off the Vette plus a $750 Costco GC,

I suspect the Genesis will have the Hyundai tax (everything should be less expensive from parts to service) and the Vette has the Corvette tax making everything a bit more expensive.

I am concerned about Genesis dealer service experience even though I have a dealer within 15 miles of me.

I am heading to the SF car show to try and make up my mind, I wish I could drive the G70 but I have driven the Stinger which gives me an idea.

My wife says the G70 looks like a Sonata from the front and that the Vette is more distinctive.

It drives totally different from the Stinger!
Pretty a whole different car and driving dynamics. The Stinger is more of a cruiser and the G70 is a corner carver.

I saw and drove the G70 at the Phoenix Auto Show. I didn't get much of a chance to drive it well since it was just in city streets around the block, but here are my impressions:

- The car looks so unique in person. It's low, and the front grill is aggressive yet luxurious. The effect the shape has on the impression is hard to understand from pictures.

- The front interior is really cozy. The layout just wraps around you, and with the high quality materials it just feels good. It feels almost as luxury as the G90 even with the sporty materials just because of how it wraps around you. It's on the smaller side but just barely big enough to not be considered small. However, my girlfriend has a big ass ( :) ) and she is not comfortable in the seats with the center console.

- Some small stuff inside feel different than I thought. The gauge cluster has more depth to it than I expected with the screen and the gauge, which was nice. The infotainment screen and the AC knobs were a lot bigger than I expected, so it doesn't feel like a small cheap screen. The metal touch parts like the door handle, aluminum trim, and paddles don't feel as metal as I expected; you can easily think they're plastic, not in that they feel cheap but in that they don't feel very metal.

- You can move the steering wheel out enough to rest your elbows on the door or center armrest and still have hands on the wheel. Yay!

- The head rest is super comfortable. The seats are firm in a sporty way, but comfortable enough. My girlfriend likes comfortable economy cars, and she found the seats a bit uncomfortable.

- The rear leg room isn't as bad as some people made it out to be. I'm 5'8", and if I put myself in a reasonable drive position then there is TONS of leg room. Some people just like putting their seats super far back for some reason, which I found very often at the auto show. However, head room isn't that good. Like I said, I'm 5'8" and if I put my back all the way back, my head was against the roof.

- So for the drive, I drove the 3.3T sport in comfort. For the ride quality, I could feel every little bump through the tires, but it wasn't an uncomfortable feeling because I liked the seats and the ride was still soft. Then again, I was just on city streets so on worse roads it may be a problem. The transmission shifted fast enough for me not to even notice, though I don't drive sporty cars to compare.

Overall, some small things weren't as good as I expected but more of because my expectations were unrealistic. But the overall car as a whole was better than I thought. Everything just comes together so well for a luxurious and unique package. Unfortunately, the car isn't comfortable for my girlfriend, which may be a deal breaker for me since I intended to use this car for road trips. Hopefully the G70 coupe is more front spacious.

That’s great they had a test drive available at the show. I agree with all of your comments. Because the G70 is a bit tight I may opt for the G80 Sport if I feel that the ride has enough sportiness. The only thing that I dislike on the G70 is the wheels and that’s not a big deal. As I mentioned in another post my favorite wheels are actually the BMW 403MC5B945E9-3BA8-4D72-8DAE-67E1C5D217D0.webp

I actually test drove the G80 Sport back to back with the G70, and I have to say I was really impressed. I never cared much for the G80 because it's so big and much heavier than the competition, but the capabilities of the acceleration, brakes, and suspension make it feel not heavy at all at higher-yet-still-reasonable speeds around corners. It feels smaller than it is because the turning radius is only 36' and the width is only an inch bigger than the G70. And then the cabin is spacious, the seats are super soft and comfortable, and the ride quality can't be broken. If you drive at 7/10s or regularly have some mountain roads in your drives, you'll probably feel the weight. But I think if you just drive normally, you don't feel the weight.

I'll probably wait for details and pictures of the new generation G80 before I go for the G70.

Looks like I was wrong about the design language - it looks similar to the new G90's styling.
